Introduction
Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) (English: Bavarian Motor Works) is a German automobile, BMW entered existence as a business entity following a restructuring of the Rapp Motorenwerke aircraft engine manufacturing firm in 1917. After the end of World War I in 1918, BMW was forced to cease aircraft engine production by the terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty. The company consequently shifted to motorcycle production in 1923 once the restrictions of the treaty started to be lifted, followed by automobiles in 192829.

1. Responsibilities to the operation manager.


A person in overall charge of the operation of a company. Considering the BMW as the base company some of the key responsibilities of the shop floor manager are given below: 1. Operations manager programs typically include instruction in principles of general management, manufacturing and production systems, plant management, equipment maintenance management, production control, industrial labour relations and skilled trades supervision, strategic manufacturing policy, systems analysis, productivity analysis and cost control, and materials planning. 2. An operation manager is responsible for the efficient working of the organisation. 3. He is responsible supply chain of the material. 4. He is responsible for capacity management like the inventory control i.e. making the arrangement of the material in advance in the inventory like the car seats, nut bolts etc 5. He is responsible for the quality of car production and delivery to the customers up to their satisfaction level and takes the corrective action to improve the quality of produced cars which is the main motto of the BMW. 6. He is responsible for the proper co-ordination between the all three plants of BMW. 7. He is responsible for the budget making for all the concern departments like the finance, marketing, production & maintenance etc. 8. He is responsible for the co-ordination with the all the supplier so that the material reach at time. 9. He is responsible for the proper and exact information deliver to the upper management like the progress of work and how far they are from the target. 10. He is responsible for the proper convey of the targets to the lower management, which is finalise by the higher authority. 11. He has to take the decision what has to produce and how to produce it. 12. One of the duties of operation manager is to create a friendly environment that generates the positive energy in their manpower.

13. Many issues that operations managers have to face include risk management, shipment delays, and clients dissatisfaction and employee problems. This is when leadership skills come into play, as operations managers have to make effective decisions that will not only help the company run smoothly but that also serve to prevent difficult situations in the future. 14. He has to take the decision that how the company waste can be used for the production of energy. As in the BMW the operation manager has taken the decision of energy generation from the waste.

2. Difference between the shop floor manager and operation manager.

Operations management is an area of management concerned with overseeing, designing, and redesigning business operations in the production of goods and/or services. Considering the BMW as the base company some of the key responsibilities of the shop floor manager are given below:

general management, manufacturing and production systems, plant management, equipment maintenance management, production control, industrial labour relations and skilled trades supervision, strategic manufacturing policy, systems analysis, productivity analysis and cost control, and materials planning. Whereas the shop floor manager has to use the resources generated by the operation manger efficiently. 2. It is operation manager responsibility of ensuring that business operations are efficient in terms of using as little resources as needed, and effective in terms of meeting customer requirements where as it is the shop floor manager responsibity to ensure that his shop floor is efficient in terms of using as little resources as needed, and effective in terms of meeting task requirements. 3. Operation manager is responsible for making the strategy for the proper utilisation of waste of his industry like producing energy from it to run the plant, where as the waste material floor manager is responsible for producing of the energy from this waste. 4. The operation manager is responsible for the budgeting for the each department like marketing, quality, finance, HR etc. whereas the shopfloor manager has to perform efficiently in the allotted funds. 5. Operation manager is concerned with managing the process that converts inputs (in the forms of materials, labour, and energy) into outputs (in the form of goods and/or services) however the shop floor manager actually manage all these activities at his floor level only. 6. The operation manager is responsible for the information flow process whereas the shop floor manger has to follow this process.
