This condition can become a heart attack if not treated properly. Signs and Indicators This condition is known as a silent killer because symptoms rarely appear during the early stages. When the condition is at the latter stages, symptoms like burning, squeezing or tightness in the chest will be felt. There is tightness or tingling in the left arm, which can also be felt on the neck. There are many people who are at risk of acquiring the disease. Those with a family history are more susceptible to the condition. People with high blood pressure and diabetes are more likely to suffer from it as well. A high fat diet and smoking also increases the risk. Also vulnerable are those who are emotionally intense and overweight. Diagnosing the Disease Aside from the symptoms, there are medical examinants that may determine if a patient has the condition. An ECG is one of the most common tests used. The echocardiogram may also be used. This test takes stock of the sound waves generated by the heart. Blood tests will be done and the cholesterol level will be assessed as well. A coronary angiogram will also be done to determine if the patient has this ailment. If the blood vessels are damaged, they cannot be repaired. That is why treatment focuses on keeping the vessels from being damaged. One of the most common techniques is to take medication to lower blood pressure. The patient may also be asked to change their diet, stop smoking and drinking and exercise regularly. Among overweight people, weight reduction will be necessary.
