Column: Chalkboard Title: STARTING OUR ROTARY YEAR RIGHT By: Rtn. Rex R.

Lor Our 41st Induction Ceremonies is the first stepping stone for the new Rotary Year 2012. Since its the first step, I will be writing about how we can effectively start another exciting and eventful year. Alexander the Great, the first successful emperor who literally conquered the known civilized world, once led his troops across a hot, empty and arid desert. After nearly two weeks of marching, he and his soldiers were near death from thirst, yet Alexander pushed ahead. Midday, two of his scouts brought what little water they were able to find and it barely filled a cup. Expectedly, his officers along with his troops were shocked when Alexander the Great poured the water in the burning sand. The Emperor exclaimed: It is of no use for one to drink when many thirst. We all thirst from the child-like thirst for love and attention; to political power and ambition; and surprisingly sometimes service & responsibility. But in a Rotary Club where teamwork spells success, thirst must come collectively. We cannot and will not have a successful year if not drink the cup together. Even Jesus shared his cup of suffering to his apostles as a reminder that His salvific mission should be shared by all through generations. For Rotary Year 2012-2013, let us ALL collectively drink together from the same cup and surely, we ALL shall benefit from being quenched.
