Overview
Did you know that more than 9 million Canadians are currently living with diabetes or prediabetes1? Even more staggering are the figures from the World Health Organization (WHO). They estimate that there are currently 346 million people worldwide affected by diabetes2. This number is expected to hit 438 million by 2030.1 As pharmacy technicians, working in the health sector will bring you into contact with many people who have diabetes. This program has been developed to help you broaden your knowledge about diabetes and how it affects the people who are diagnosed with it.
THE TOPICS COVERED IN COURSE 3 INCLUDE: P How does healthy eating benefit the patient with diabetes? P How do different types of foods affect diabetes? P What about drinking alcohol? P What are the benefits of physical activity or exercise for people with diabetes? P How much and what type of physical activity is recommended? P Should any precautions be taken prior to initiating or increasing physical activity? P How can physical activity be part of everyday living?
The Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy has accredited this program 1079-2011-369-I-T for 1.5 CEUs. Accreditation of this program will be recognized by CCCEP under the above noted file number until January 3, 2015.
