Mario Alberto Tobas Rincn Writing Processes in English Alhel Morn, PhD.

July 7th, 08 Writing Workshop I have had the experience to work on several writing workshops with my students. I found it useful and important to make students be familiar with the process. When I used to tell them, This week well have a writing workshop, they felt motivated because it did not mean well be writing all the time; that meant that we would have a prewriting activity, which they enjoyed a lot, several writing activities, meetings with peers, etc. This made the class to have and feel a sense of community, where everyone works for their own good and that of others. As I mentioned before, the prewriting step is crucial to keep students attention on the task. This will motivate them to keep writing, revising, editing, and publishing their work. My students liked the idea of sharing their work, since listening to others helped them with their own writing; that gave them ideas to improve their work and they also suggested some. The only problem I found, again, is time. Time is what we teachers always complain about. As I said before, it requires a lot of organization in order to have a successful workshop.
