Elgin and Joliet. For far too long, this state, its governor and elected senators and representatives, have resorted to gambling in a futile attempt to try and balance an out of control state budget. Now, with a further expansion of gambling options, those businesses that have hired local men and women and invested hundreds of millions of dollars in Aurora and elsewhere are finding their futures and jobs threatened by these same leaders. It is time that we, the taxpayers and residents of Illinois, tell our elected officials in Springfield that we will no longer stand for their reckless spending. We can no longer stand by and watch as our taxes increase, unpaid bills pile up by the billions and pension promises go unfulfilled. Perhaps, if many of our incumbent state legislators who have voted for these reckless spending and tax programs are rejected by voters this November, the message will finally be received that we are serious about demanding a new direction in Illinois. We need jobs, not more taxes and gambling. We need promises made to our teachers and workers kept, not more cuts and false hope. And we need honesty when it comes to state spending and the programs it pays for not more broken promises and a kind word from a politician who just needs our vote every two or four years.
