INTRODUCTION Applications are invited for admission to the B. Ed degree course conducted directly by the University of Kerala at various colleges. The prospectus is subject to modifications/additions/deletions as may be considered necessary by the University. DETAILS OF THE COURSE The B. Ed. Course offered by these colleges shall extend for a period of one year comprising two semesters of 6 months each. IV. 4.1.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION All those who have passed the B.A./B. Sc. Degree examination of any of the Universities in Kerala under the 10+2+3 pattern with single main and two subsidiary subjects or of any University recognized by the University of Kerala as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission subject to the following stipulations regarding marks. However, candidates who have qualified the double main, triple main, Restructured & Vocational courses of other Universities will be considered for admission if and only when they furnish the photocopies of the eligibility certificate from Kerala University along with the application, to the effect that their qualifying examination is recognized for the purpose of admission to B. Ed. degree course in a particular optional subject.

a. The minimum marks for admission to B. Ed Degree Course is 50% for the Science and Arts Subjects in Part III OR b. A Minimum of 50% marks in B.A./B. Sc. degree examination for Part I English or Part II Languages viz. Malayalam, Hindi, Sanskrit & Arabic as the case may be. They should possess a Masters Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks.

Admission based on (b) above shall be given only when sufficient number of candidates with qualifications under (a) are not available for that particular subject. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates with pass minimum for Part III and Part I English and Part II Languages with aggregate of 35% marks are eligible to seek admission. Other Backward Classes Candidates shall be eligible for a relaxation of 3% from the minimum marks for Part III/Part I/Part II Languages as the case may be. Departmental Teachers who are in regular and permanent service in schools are exempted from the prescribed minimum marks for admission stipulated under clause 4.2 a. and 4.2 b. Certificate indicating that the candidate is a resident of a particular District is required in the case of candidates from other states who claim District weightage. Candidates shall be physically fit and mentally sound. Totally Deaf, Dumb candidates are not eligible. Blind candidates shall not be admitted to science Optional. Candidates with two main and three main degrees of other Universities should have studied Botany and Zoology, one subject being equivalent to the main and the other equivalent to the subsidiary, or both subjects being equivalent to the main, for seeking admission in B. Separate Rank lists shall be published for Physics and Chemistry for admission to the Physical Science Optional and candidates will be selected from these lists in the ratio 1:1. Similarly, separate rank lists shall be published for Botany and Zoology for admission to Natural Science Optional and candidates shall be selected from these lists in the ratio 1:1. MODE OF SELECTION AND WEIGHTAGE OF MARKS Selection of candidates will be on the basis of marks obtained by them in the B.A./B.Sc./M.Com/M. Sc degree examination together with weightage given for various factors stipulated by the University. A weightage of 5% of marks scored by the candidate for B.A/B. Sc. Part III shall be added to the marks secured in Part III in respect of students from Kerala University. Locality: 10 marks will be given to candidates who belong to the Revenue Dist. (permanently) in which the college is situated as indicated in page 3 of the SSLC book. In case the address given in the application form is different from the one in the SSLC book, the candidates shall be required to produce the Nativity Certificate issued by the Revenue Authorities to claim weightage under this category. Teaching experience: A weightage of 0.1 marks shall be awarded for every month of approved teaching service subject to a maximum of 5 marks. This benefit shall be given only to the Regular Full-Time Teachers of Aided/ Govt. Schools and Colleges. Sports: A weightage of 1% of marks obtained for Part I/II and III as the case may be shall be awarded to candidates who represented the University/State/Nation in sports or games. Post-Graduate Degree: Weightage of 15 marks for I class, 10 marks for II class, 5 marks for III class shall be given to Post Graduate degree holders provided the post graduation is in the subject for which the candidate seeks admission to the B. Ed. Degree Course. 5 marks shall be given as weightage to candidates with a minimum of 2 years attendance in NCC/NSS at graduate level. (Certificate from the competent authority should be attached). RESERVATION OF SEATS Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST quota), SC 15%, ST 5% of the total number of seats in each centre. Vacancies in the SC/ST quota shall be notified again and in the event of SC/ST quota seats remain unfilled, the seat shall be filled by OEC candidates. OEC candidate admitted against seats reserved for SC/ST candidates (for want of sufficient number of SC/ST candidates) shall be required to possess the minimum marks prescribed for SEBC candidates.

One seat shall be reserved in each subject in each college for teachers of Govt./Aided Schools. Two seats will be reserved in each college for sportsmen who have represented the Nation/State/University. One seat each shall be reserved for students who have been awarded Kalathilakom/ Kalaprathibha at each college. 3% of the seats in each college shall be reserved for Physically challenged students. (Including Blind). Out of this 50% is reserved for blind candidates. Two seats in each college shall be reserved for Ex-servicemen, their dependants and dependants of service personnel, (son/daughter/wife/husband). The priority of allotment of seats shall be in the following order - Ex-servicemen, Dependant of Ex-servicemen, Dependants of service personnel irrespective of marks secured by the candidate. Two seats shall be reserved in each college for Repatriates from Burma and Ceylon. * If there is no applicant for reservation, it will come to open seat.

CLAIMS FOR RESERVATION AND CERTIFICATES TO BE PRODUCED Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) quota. Candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST quota shall be required to produce the caste/community certificate from a Revenue Officer not below the rank of a Tahsildar. The Community Certificate shall clearly specify that the candidate himself/herself (not the father or mother) belongs to the scheduled caste/tribe. The certificate obtained earlier for other purposes shall not be accepted.

The candidate of Scheduled Caste origin who is reconverted to Hinduism from Christianity shall produce Community Certificate from the Tahsildar concerned along with a copy of the Gazette notification regarding the reconversion. Children of inter-caste married couples who claim reservation under SC/ST quota should produce the inter-caste marriage certificate in addition to the community certificate. The community of the father is to be considered for claiming reservation. Socially and Educationally backward classes (SEBC) quota. Candidates belonging to socially and Educationally Backward Classes whose family income (Annual income of all members of family taken together) is below Rs.4,50,000/- (Rupees Four lakhs fifty thousand only) are eligible for reservation under this category. Only the claim of candidates belonging to these Communities which are included in the current SEBC list as per GO (P) 208/66/Edn. dated 2.5.1966 alone will be considered. Claims of the candidates belonging to the Community other than those included in the above mentioned list will not be considered for reservation even in cases where certificates from the concerned Revenue Officers have been furnished along with the application. Candidates claiming reservation under SEBC quota such as Ezhava, Muslim, LC other than Anglo Indian, Other Backward Hindus, SIUC and converted Christian should invariably produce both community certificate and income certificate from the village officer, issued within six months prior to the last date notified by the University for submission of application. Applicants claiming reservation under Latin Catholics other than Anglo Indians quota should produce a community certificate from the concerned Village Officer specifying that they belong to Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian Community. Certificates issued in any other form will not be accepted. The certificates obtained earlier for other purposes will not be accepted. Teacher Quota The applicants should be in regular service in a Govt. or aided school. Certificate regarding experience of teaching is to be produced from the following authorities; Primary School Service AEO, High School Service DEO, Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary service-concerned Directors, Govt./Aided colleges affiliated to the recognized Universities Principal duly countersigned by the DCE/Dy.DCE. Applications in such cases shall be forwarded by the officers mentioned above. Sports Quota Candidates who claim reservation under this quota should have represented the State/ Nation/University in sports and games.

Candidates should produce a certificate of eligibility for selection under this quota, issued by Kerala Sports Council. Candidates who satisfy the conditions (a) and (b) above, only will be considered for the reservation under sports quota. Quota for Physically Challenged: Candidates who have a minimum of 40% disability alone will be eligible to apply for admission under the quota. A certificate of disability from the District Medical Board certifying the degree of percentage of disability and fitness to undergo the course is to be attached along with application from. The selection of such physically challenged candidates shall be based on merit and not on the basis of the degree of disability. Kalathilakom and Kalaprathibha candidates should furnish relevant certificate in support of their claim. Titles awarded in the immediately preceding year of admission alone shall be eligible for this reservation. Ex.servicemen/Service personnel/Dependants Quota: Applicants of this category should invariably produce a certificate obtained not earlier than six months from the date of notification from the Military Authorities of State/Zilla Sainik Welfare Officers to the effect that he/she is the son/daughter/wife/husband of Ex-serviceman or an Ex-serviceman himself/herself. Dependants of service personnel should produce a certificate obtained from the Military Authority to the effect that he/she is son/daughter/wife/husband of serving personnel with details of the station where he/she is working at present.

Ceylon and Burma Repatriates candidates seeking reservation under this quota should furnish documentary evidence in support of their claim. FEES A fee of Rs.24,225/- shall be remitted at the time of admission. This includes tuition fee, special fees and caution deposit prescribed for the entire course. If a candidate fails to pay the fees on the day of admission, the seat shall be allotted to the next person in the rank order. Details of fees: 1. Tuition fee(to be paid in two Rs. 21,000/instalments -Rs.11,000 in the I semester and Rs.10, 000 in the II semester.

Caution deposit of Rs.500/- will be refunded only at the end of the course. Fee once remitted shall not be refunded under any circumstances. Scheduled Caste/Tribe candidates will be exempted from the payment of fee on production of proper certificates. HOW TO APPLY Application for admission is to be made in the prescribed form to be downloaded from website www.keralauniversity.ac.in Candidates applying for the same optional subject at different centres should submit separate application in the prescribed form. Candidates applying in more than one district should submit separate application in the prescribed form issued for that district. If a candidate wishes to apply for admission for more than one subject, separate application shall be used for each subject. A Registration fee of Rs.250/- remitted through Pay-in-slip at University Cash counter / Friends counter or through Demand Draft of Rs.260/should be sent along with each application form and its details may be shown in the application. SC/ST candidates should remit Rs 100/and Rs.110/- if paid by DD. The Demand Draft should be drawn in favaour of the Finance Officer, University of Kerala, issued either by the SBT Branches payable at SBT

Service Branch, Thiruvananthapuram. Candidates from out side Kerala shall submit demand draft from SBI branches, payable at SBI Main Branch, Thiruvananthapuram. The applications for admission along with DD and documents in support of eligibility shall be sent to the Principals of the respective colleges. The Last Date for the receipt of filled in applications is as notified in the Press Release - 25.07.2012. Applications received after the last date will not be considered.

SELECTION AND ADMISSION The centre wise rank lists of eligible candidates in each subject in the order of merit will be published. The admission to each centre will be held at the same centre. The Principals of each centre are authorized to conduct the interview of that centre. The admission memo will be sent to the candidate. The candidate shall be admitted at the centre of first choice, if there is a seat according to the rank. If there is no seat available at the centre of first choice, the candidate shall be admitted at the centre of the second choice, provided there is seat available at the centre of second choice. If a candidate is admitted at the centre of second choice or third choice and if he/she does not want to be transferred to the centres of first/second choice when vacancy arises, he shall give in writing to that effect and such candidate shall not be transferred to that centre. Candidates belonging to the category of community reservation and are included in the merit rank list, they should opt the merit seat. If the candidates do not attend the interview on the date of merit seat, their candidature will be forfeited. Allotment of seats among different Optional Subjects for the year 2012-2013 are as detailed in Appendix II. Separate statement regarding the allotment of seats among different optionals of each College is furnished. Admission shall be done strictly as per the statement. Seats shall be transferred to other optional subjects only if the candidates in a particular rank list of that subject are exhausted and sufficient candidates in the reservation categories in other subjects are available. Reservations Community Reservation: Those who have not attached the copy of Income and Community Certificates along with the application form shall not be included in the ranklist of community- wise lists. Admissions to the seats reserved under community and other reservations shall be done only from the rank list published for that particular category in a particular optional. Teacher quota - One seat for each subject in each centre Sports - Two seats at each centre {One seat for Science Subjects and one seat for Arts subjects. the order of priority shall be -1. National 2. State 3. University} (c) Ex-Servicemen/Service personal quota 2 seats at each centre One seat for Science subjects and one seat for Arts Subjects. If selection is to be made from among different subjects the order of priority is as follows Ex-servicemen is ranked first, dependents of Ex-servicemen second and dependents of service personnel is ranked third irrespective of the index marks scored by the candidate. Physically challenged: 3% of total seats in each College shall be reserved for Physically challenged students including partially blind (Blind candidates shall not however be admitted to Science subjects) Repatriates from Burma & Ceylon 2 seats in each centre Kalathilakom & Kalaprathibha 1 seat at each centre Seats reserved under Teacher/Sports/Ex-Service/Physically challenged/ repatriates/ Kalathilakom/Kalaprathibha quotas which cannot be filled due to non-availability of candidates in the rank list of a particular optional subject shall be filled from the General merit list of that particular optional subject itself. XIV 14.1 General Merit Marginal adjustments in number of seats of Optionals will be made if necessary to admit the full quota of reservation seats (community and other quotas) without exceeding the total strength of the centre. Candidates seeking admission to language optional under Part I & II subjects will be ranked separately. These candidates shall be admitted only in the absence of candidates in the mainlist of the concerned subject. In the interview memo cards, the nature of the seats whether sure or chance will be shown clearly. The number of chance cards sent will be twice the number of sure seats. Memo Cards for interview will be sent by Registered post. The candidates should produce the orginals of all certificates, mark lists etc. at the time of interview failing which they shall forfeit their claims for admission to the course. OTHER ITEMS The orginals of the documents/certificates need not be attached along with the application. Furnish only self attested true copies/photocopies. Applications which do not contain the certificates mentioned above, and in which any of the items are found incomplete or defective WILL BE SUMMARILY REJECTED.

No opportunity will be given to incorporate or alter the details, after the submission of the application form. No communications will be entertained in this regard. Any other items not specifically covered in this prospectus shall be decided by the under signed and his decision therein shall be final. Any complaints regarding the Rank List shall be intimated within 5 days from the date of publication of Rank List. No complaint shall be received/entertained after that date.
