Step 2: Come Up With An Organizational Strategy
Even though you may not be coding the database yourself, you still need to communicate effectively to your programmer just what you want your database to contain. How do you want it to be organized? What sorts of information do you want presented, and where? Lets take a very common public data source as an example of organizational options: lyrics.
There are a ton of lyrics sites out there right now, so it may not be the best move to use this data source for your site. However, it lends itself to the perfect example data source. Lets say youre making a database filled with lyrics to country songs. You have all of the content you need but just throwing it all at the web guy isnt going to help matters.
Instead, think of how you would like this information to be organized if you were searching for country music lyrics. Of course, youd want the information to be searchable. But what else would you want? Would you want to be able to browse the data as well? Would you like it be listed alphabetically? By artist first name or last name? By song title? By year? As you can see, there is a lot to take into

On this page there are more links down the left hand side where you can access all the articles related to the topic of Clickbank and Affiliate Marketing. When a link to an article is clicked, the article will appear in the middle of the page for easy reading. Each time a visitor lands on the page, a random article is shown from the database. What this means is new content is provided each time visitors come back to my site which keeps it new and interesting for them.
As long as your site is well organized, easy to use and provides valuable information, then your visitors will come back again and again.

Dont overload it: A website with too much information on each page is no fun for anyone. Who wants to scroll for a mile to get to the information they want?

You want to use a font that is both easy on the eyes and compatible with all web browsers. Using a fancy font may look nice on your computer, but it can be thrown all out of whack when viewed on a different computer. Dont alienate your visitors. Keep it simple: Theres nothing that turns a visitor off more than a website that takes too long to load or requires a bunch of additional software or plug-ins to run. If your fancy site intro wont load or your visitor needs to download a plug-in to view it, most visitors wont take the time to wait. Make sure your design, layout and navigation are all simple and easy to use and dont require any special functions.

You can design (or have someone else design) the best website ever created- but it wont do you any good if its just sitting there on your hard drive. Thats why its so important to set a deadline for yourself. Even if youre hiring out this work, you should still have a deadline in mind and stick to it. After all, you are placing your time and money on the line with this venture. Granted, it may not be very much money, but it is still your money and that deserves planning, commitment and foresight.

Before you start building an interface, keep the following questions in mind: What Will This Interface Be Used For?
Why, your public data, of course! But thats not exactly what this question is asking. Rather, it is meant to make you think about what sort of public data your interface will be representing and how it will be used by visitors. That should be the very first question you ask yourself before embarking on your journey of creating an interface for your public data.
Obviously, an interface will vary greatly in its appearance and function depending on what sort of information it contains. Stock quotes will need to be accessed differently than song

Is My Content Updatable?

Instead of receiving a product per se, the customers will receive a confirmation of their membership via e-mail and from then on be able to access your site through a password-protected area that contains all of the valuable content, the product, that you just couldnt give away for free.
At this point you may be wondering how you could possibly set this all up yourself. After all, setting up a shopping cart and a password protected area requires databases and some serious content management. But fear not! Just as was the case with the interface, you wont have to lift a finger here, either. All you need to do is know what you want and need. Then, communicate this to your programmer. Theyll fix your site right up so that you can start enrolling members immediately.
Of course, its always a good idea to run your site through a beta-test with the new membership features in place before you begin to charge people. This will work out any bugs in the system. Glitches can and do sometimes occur, but with a beta-test of some kind you will greatly reduce the chance of

Keeping your content on a public data site fresh can be difficult, but a bit of strategy can keep the effort manageable. Lets say you host a certain batch of articles on the home page of your website. Simply changing the focus and placing different articles on the home page every week can entice visitors and make them feel as though theyre experiencing something new, some dynamic content, even though you havent really added new information to the site as a whole, but merely shifted your content.

In addition to your regular content or public data, you can write, or have someone else write for you, a few articles using keywords that are mostly geared to your site topic that will bring in the most visitors. Start out with about twenty of the articles on your site. They dont have to be incorporated into the main content; just create a special page with links to these articles and then link that page to the main site. Building Autopilot Blogs Using Public Domain Content Probably the quickest and easiest way to set up sites that use free public domain content is to set up Wordpress blogs that use RSS feed syndication to automatically post content to your site.
Now that probably sounds difficult or hard to achieve to some people, but I am going to show you that it is in fact very easy And the best part is these sites can be set up on autopilot so that once the site is built you dont have to do hardly any more work and the site will continue to build itself and pull in free traffic from the search engines!
So what is an RSS feed? It is simply a distribution channel for delivering content to people on the internet. For example, you might be interested in reading the top news stories from around the world each morning, so instead of having to go to
all the different websites for the top newspapers around the world, you can subscribe to the RSS feed for all the different sites and get the syndicated content delivered directly to you. Each time a new story gets posted you can get that story sent to you by email. This saves you the time of going to all the different websites and makes it easy for you to get the content you want in all in the one place.
Well, you can do exactly the same thing with a Wordpress blog to automatically create content for your site. Taking the example above, you could create a world news blog that brings in content from RSS feeds of the top newspapers around the world, and instead of the content being delivered to your email address, you can set up your blog to automatically post those stories to your site each day.
By bringing in RSS feeds from different sources, the content on your site then becomes unique and is continually updated, which means the search engines will love your site and will bring you plenty of free traffic!
Heres how you do it:
1. Choose your niche topic and set up a domain;
2. Install a free Wordpress blog on your domain (you can download the latest version of Wordpress for free here http://wordpress.org/download/ ) Hint: watch the

Now, to generate even more traffic to your site you can also write articles and submit them to sites like Squidoo.com (set up a lens for your niche), article directories (like GoArticles.com, EzineArticles.com, etc), Butterfly Reports, etc and have those articles link back to your blog.
Then to really turbo charge the traffic coming to your site, you can make short video clips about your niche that direct people to come to your site, then submit those videos to multiple video sharing sites like YouTube.com, Google video, etc. Next you need to socially bookmark all your video pages and blog posts in social bookmarking sites like Delicious.com, Stumble Upon, digg, etc. This will really get you some serious exposure in the search engines and will drive you a ton of traffic to your site!
Now the best way to make money from your new autopilot traffic magnet blog is to install Google AdSense ads on your site, promote affiliate products, promote your own products (in the last chapter I will show you how to create your own products in no time at all using existing public domain products that are waiting for you to repackage and publish as your own!), install banner ads, plus you should set up an email capture on the site so you can build a list of people that you can follow up with offers by email. eZineArticles.com is what is known as an article directory. There are tens of thousands of articles all organized by category that people can come and read. Many publishers come to this site to find articles that they can publish in their own publications so that they dont have to do as much writing.
People submit their articles with a link back to their site or some kind of contact information at the end. When people use the articles or publish them they have to keep the authors contact details, called a resource box, in the article so the author receives credit for the writing. The author also gets traffic back to their site from people who click on the link in the resource box. A truly win, win situation.

You might be thinking, how does this help me?
You could go to the site and get a bunch of related articles and combine them into a report or even a book and have a product you can sell or give away with no writing on your behalf.
Another bigger option would be to start your own article directory so that people come and submit articles to your site which creates all of your content automatically.

The opportunity is huge for making money with products available in the public domain which is the main reason Ive put together this expanded section for you to learn from.
Where is public domain content available? There are literally millions of creative worksbooks, music, music scores, films, photographs, artwork, images, and much morethat exist in the public domain. But if theyre so public, why are they hiding?
The short answer is: they arent. There are a multitude of well-known works that people dont realize are now considered public property. From classic literature to nonfiction works on a wide variety of topics; silent films, classic movies, vintage cartoons and beloved songs; even some instantly recognizable artwork and images can be found in the public domain.
So what does this actually mean for you? Well, it means you can take literally any public domain materials and build a product and your online business

Libraries are an excellentand freeresource for finding public domain material. Pick a subject that interests you and scan the shelves for older books relating to the topic, or spend an afternoon browsing through the card catalogue. Most of the time, the publication date is right near the

Most librarians are quite knowledgeable about their librarys collections and are happy to help you find exactly what youre looking for. If youre planning a visit to the library, its advantageous to make up a list of questions regarding the object of your search and approach the librarian before you do anything else, particularly if you are going to a small local library. Larger state-run library and university library staff members may not have the time or resources to devote personal attention to every patron.
The National Center for Education Statistics features a library locator on their Web site with listings of libraries across the nation. Find a library near you and plan a treasure-hunting trip.
Garage Sales and Flea Markets
The old adage one mans trash is anothers treasure is the absolute truth when it comes to looking for public domain works. There are many ways to go about creating an e-book that you can sell. If you are simply reproducing an exact copy of a public domain work, the process is fairly straightforward: either distribute copies of the electronic version you obtained, or put the scanned pages of a physical book together in one file. If you are making changes to the text or the presentation, or modernizing the content, several options are available. You should choose to work with whatever method is easiest and most accessible to you. Here we will review the most common types of e-books and discuss how to create each one.
Producing An HTML Style eBook
HTML (hypertext markup language) files can be read by any Internet browser, and appear on a computer screen as a web page or series of web pages. To create an HTML e-book you can: Do it yourself with a word processing program like Microsoft Word. Most word processing programs have a Save As option that will allow you to

Create An eBook As An Adobe Acrobat File
By far the most popular format for e-books, PDFs (Portable Document Files) are viewed using the free Adobe Acrobat reader. The advantages to creating a PDF e-book are numerous: it will give your book professional flair; anyone with Internet access can read it with ease; and Adobe offers many special features you can use to create an interactive, popular e-book that gives buyers more than just words on a screen.
In order to produce a PDF book, you must first create the document in a format recognized by the Adobe Acrobat program for conversion. A PDF file is basically a snapshot of the original document with all the fonts, images, formatting and links preserved exactly as they appear on-screen. Some of the file formats Acrobat recognizes are: .DOC, .XLS, .PPT, and .MDB (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access documents); .HTML and .XTML (web pages); .RTF and .TXT (text files); and .BMP, .GIF, .JPG and .TIFF (image files).

Sound confusing? Most of these file types interact easily with one another, particularly between Microsoft Office applications, and can be joined into one document before converting to PDF.
When creating a PDF e-book, you have two choices: use the Adobe Acrobat software (the standard version retails for around $399, www.adobe.com ), or create the document in another programexactly as you want it to appear on the screenand then use a free online file conversion program to create the PDF version.
Though its not cheap, the Adobe Acrobat program has its advantages. Once you learn how to use it, you can change the text, formatting, and layout of the file right in the program without going back to the source document, updating and then re-converting. Also, you can integrate sections of your book from different programs into one file; for example, if you wanted a few pages of captioned pictures, you can create PowerPoint slides and inject them into a Word document in the place you want them.
If you would rather not, or you are unable to, invest in the Adobe Acrobat programand remember, if you are only creating one e-book or product, it may not be worth the outlayyou can download free software that will allow you to convert most files to PDF format. Remember: Your source document must appear exactly as you want it to on-screen

The cover of your e-book is just as important as the cover of a physical book would be. Creating a professional cover image can convert interested browsers to paying customers, while slapping together a bunch of colorful words in large fonts (which often creates a jarring effect that makes people hurry to leave your site) can guarantee you will never sell a thing.
How do you create a great e-book cover? Unless youre already a graphic designer, you should probably obtain cover design software. If youre using e-book creation software to generate your product, covers are generally included in the package. If youre using Adobe Acrobat or a free web converter program, youll have to design it yourself.

While it will cost you money to get this done, anywhere from $50 to $300 for a whole website graphics package, the outlay can be recovered from the sales you make with your professional looking graphics.
How to prepare books and publications for print sale
Until recently, producing a physical book was a timeconsuming process involving a heavy initial investment, the need to print hundreds or thousands of books at once and store them somewhere, and the many problems associated with inventory, distribution and shipping issues. But with todays advanced technology, you can enlist a third-party

provider to store your content, produce books one at a time as they are ordered, and ship them directly to buyers. This process is called Print On Demand, or PODand you can use it to print and sell books with absolutely no investment.
There are hundreds of companies using POD technology to produce books. Some are major publishers who rely on this method to bring back out-of-print volumes or test market a title before investing in a print run. Most are companies that cater to authors who would otherwise not be able to get published. These publishers charge a package fee, ranging from around $200 to thousands of dollars depending on the extras orderedand most of them would not consider public domain works anyway. However, there is one POD company that functions as a printing and distribution service rather than calling itself a publisher, and provides absolutely free printing for books, calendars, and more. The company name is Lulu.
Original works require an ISBN, or International Standard Book Number, in order to be sold in bookstores and through online retailers such as Amazon. However, since you will be working with public domain material and selling from personal sites, you will not need to buy an ISBN. Lulu will print and distribute your public domain work at no cost to you, and you receive a percentage of the retail price from each sale.

NOTE: You will have to offer a revised or updated version of the work in order to use Lulus services; otherwise, they may not be willing to risk copyright infringement.
In order to publish through Lulu, you must be able to format an electronic version of the work exactly as you want it to appear on paper (see the previous section on creating ebooks). Also, you must submit PDF-formatted files for printing. You do not have to convert the file to PDF format yourself, as the company offers a conversion service right on the web site, but sometimes file conversions do not work as well as they should. If possible, you should convert it yourself to ensure the book will appear just the way you want it to.
You can also use Lulu to produce and sell calendars and graphic coffee table-style books created from public domain images. Be creative! The possibilities are limitless. A few examples of image groups that might make for great calendars are: NASA space photographs, nostalgic movie posters, patriotic themed pictures, classic art reproductions, or even covers of public domain books with monthly quotations from each one.
How to reproduce audio public domain works for distribution or sale
Audio public domain content includes songs, popular recordings, famous speeches, radio plays, and classic

commercials. Once you obtain a recording of a public domain work, there are a few ways to go about reproducing and selling it:
Downloads. You can place a link on your web site that will allow people to download the audio content in a format compatible with electronic players such as .mp3 or .wav. Most computers come with playback software installed, so just about anyone can access downloaded audio feeds.
NOTE: If you are dealing with audio content, you should include a link on your site to where customers can obtain whatever free player software is necessary for them to listen, usually Real Player or Windows Media Player.
To place a file on your web site for downloading, particularly a large file such as audio or video content, you will need to first zip or compress the file, and then store it on your web site as a .EXE file. You can find a detailed explanation of this process here.
Briefly, the process is this: First, use a utility zipper such as the free WinZip program (most new computers come with this software installed) to compress your files and convert them to .EXE format. WinZip features a wizard that will walk you through the process step by step. Then, save the .EXE file to your hard drive and use the file manager on your web site to upload it to your server space. When customers arrive at your

sales pageafter they have paid, or if you are offering free samples or bonus downloadsthe address of the link they will click on will be something like this: http://www.yoursitename.com/product/file.zip [this link is not active so dont click it]
This will automatically initiate the download process to their hard drive. Be sure to provide a link to the utility you used to compress the file, just in case the customer does not have one already installed.
NOTE: The process for compressing and preparing audio and video content for download is the same for e-books. Also, some web site hosts provide tools for file downloads from your site that are much easier to set up.
Burning CDs
This method involves a bit of financial investment, but not much. Most modern computers come with CD-RW (compact disk rewritable) drives and software allowing you to copy files from your hard drive to a disc. Your investment will be in materials: blank rewritable CDs, CD jewel cases or paper folders, CD labeling equipment (some computers are preinstalled with this feature) or printable labels, and shipping and postage material (relatively inexpensive, since CDs are small and light).

Blank CDs generally range from 10 cents to $1 a piece, depending on how many you buythe more you purchase at once, the cheaper they are. Jewel cases are similarly priced, and you can often save more by buying CDs and cases together. You can also purchase cardboard CD sleeves or mailers for just pennies a piece. For labels, you can purchase software and printable self-sticking templates, or equipment that allows you to print labels directly onto the CDs surface. Though it will cost around $100 after buying the programs, labels and printer ink or the direct printing system, this onetime investment will give your product a professional appearance.
Some consumers prefer to purchase a CD rather than download files that may or may not end up where they want themand you can generally make a nicer presentation with physical CDs, and therefore charge a higher price. You will easily be able to recover the minimal investment you make and start profiting from CD sales, especially if you have an assortment of discs to choose from on your site.
