    Update on works at Chambers Wharf Dear Resident When I wrote to you in March, I reported that we had unearthed a small piece of low-risk asbestos in an existing pile of rubble at Chambers Wharf. We immediately arranged for the fragments safe removal and as you may have seen from our teams on site, we are also undertaking background air monitoring. In addition we have also taken other samples from around the site for testing and as expected none of the monitoring results have indicated any cause for concern. We have shared them with the London Borough of Southwark, the Environment Agency as well as the Health and Safety Executive and will continue to do so until this work is completed. We have now submitted a planning application and are seeking approvals from the local authority. Details of our planning application (ref 12/AP/2311) are on the councils website www.southwark.gov.uk. I must stress this application relates only to the removal of the rubble and is not connected to the construction of the Thames Tideway Tunnel itself. If approved, the planned work to remove the rubble by barge would involve:
    1. Erecting covered scaffolding over the rubble heap. 2. Constructing covered conveyors to move the rubble to waiting barges. 3. Dampening the rubble to minimise dust. 4. Continued air monitoring and establishing workers welfare facilities.

    Please note, in light of the air monitoring results, we are now planning to undertake one borehole on the site, which is needed as part of our site investigations work.
