Welding using Fiber Laser

Background
In a fiber laser, the active medium is dispersed within the fiber optic cable. This is different from fiber delivered systems, where the beam is only transported through the fiber from the resonator. Highest brightness i.e. best focus, industrial laser type. High efficiency, modular & scalable, small size, good reliability compared to other laser types favorable process performance and economics Laser welding allows for extremely high power densities deep, narrow welds Low total heat input very little distortion

Process
Typical fiber laser installations several laser modules that are combined to achieve desired total power (kW) Process can be performed in air. Filler is not typically used. High thermal gradients may necessitate pre-heat or secondary de-focused laser for martensitic steels. Hybrid systems combining laser and conventional weld processes are also being used.
