The Outsiders Essay by Shane Hoffman Dally didnt want Johnny to go save the children from the burning

church, because he didnt want Johnny to get hurt. Dally loved and cared for Johnny, and he didnt w ant anything bad to happen to Johnny. He loved and cared for Johnny because John ny was Dally favorite and he knew how bad of life it must be for Johnny. Also, J ohnny always thought of Dally of his hero. He thought of Dally as cool, strong, and stands up for what he believes in. He says this because thinks Dally looks c ool, hes always fighting the socials in rumbles to prove that he is strong, and h e thinks Dally is cool when he makes a point of breaking the law. Thats what make s Dally his role model. Dally really liked Johnnys appreciation for him, and he d idnt want for Johnny to get hurt. He thought that if Johnny went into the burning church, he could get catch on fire, get hurt, and possibly die. He didnt want Jo hnny taking risks with his life. He just couldnt stand it if Johnny, the gangs pet , died. It would be awfully hard for Dally to take the fact that Johnny, Dallys # 1 fan, had died. Johnny prized Dally, and Dally had prized Johnny. They couldnt l ive if this relationship got broken up. Thats why when Johnny dies in the book, D ally commits suicide. Another reason why is that Dally and Johnny are so similar , it makes a very strong relationship. For Example, they both dislike Johnnys par ents; they both hate the socs, etc. Johnny is abused by his parents because they worry about him too much, and always scream at him when hes not doing what they wanted. Johnny hates when that happens. Dally doesnt like Johnnys parents because he thinks that Johnny doesnt deserve to be treated that way. Also, Johnny hates the socs because he got beat up by them; and Dally doesnt like the socs because t hey beat up greasers especially Johnny for no reason. They have many more simila rities that make this friendship strong. Dally doesnt want Johnny taking risks wi th his life because he loves and cares for Johnny too much to see him die.
