SELFACTUALIZATION

Maslows Hierarchy of Needs

Maslows Hierarchy of Needs is a theory in Psychology, proposed by Abraham Maslow in his 1943 Papers.

This level of need pertains to what a persons full potential is and realizing that potential. i.e. Morality, Creativity, Acceptance of people, etc.

SELF- ESTEEM
Esteem is the worth, value or opinion one has of person. Self-esteem is thinking well of oneself and being well-thought of by others. Clients often lose self-esteem when ill or injured, as closely related to independence.

LOVE AND BELONGING

Love includes deep affection, tenderness and devotion. The need for belonging includes the need for a rightful place in society, in a peer group or in a family. No man is an island, humans are social beings and therefore desire to build close relationships with others. To love and be loved. Note: Need for belongingness can overcome the Physiological and Security needs.

(ex. An Anorexic, may ignore the need to eat and the security of health for control and belongingness.)

SAFETY
Safety needs involve protection from danger, harm, fear and pain. Clients have more peace of mind when they can give informed consent prior to a procedure. (who, what, where, when, why, etc.) i.e. Personal security, financial security, and Health and Well-being.

PHYSICAL
Literal requirements for Human survival, without them the Human body cannot function. The support worker is often involved in helping the client meet their physical needs. i.e. Air, Water, Food, Sex, Sleep, etc.
