LOOKING BACK

Mark 10:46-11:10
How many times have our expectations of others brought upon disappointment, frustration, and confusion? This is especially true of our expectations with God. When He doesnt do for us what we want or think He should, our faith flounders. Our hope lies in who Jesus Christ is and what He has done. THINKING IT THROUGH (Contemplate/consider/discuss/agree/disagree) They (the crowd) are not following and cheering for Jesus because He is God, they are following Jesus because they think that in Him they can get good stuff.

Ambition. What is yours? Did you have one growing up? And what is your chosen strategy to achieve it? Life presents many options to fulfill stated or unstated ambitions. In this section of the gospel of Mark, the disciples put theirs on full display. It isnt pretty, but the way Jesus handled it is one for the ages. LOOKING IT UP 1. How does the description of what was going on in and among those following Jesus in v. 32 tell about the state of the circumstances? 2. What ambition does Jesus lay out for Himself in vs. 32b-34? List the details. 3. After hearing that, what surprises you about the statement of James and John in v. 35? 4. Does Jesus reject their request? If not, what does He do? (vs. 36-39) 5. Where did this path of following Jesus lead James? (see Acts 12:1-2) 6. Describe the human dynamic of v. 41. When have you had feelings like this? 7.
