    The 2G spectrum scam occurred in 2008 when the Telecom Ministry under A. Raja issued 122 licenses for 2G spectrum at below-market prices. This caused massive losses to the government, estimated between Rs. 22,000-60,000 crores by the CVC and CAG reports respectively. Raja was arrested by the CBI along with others in 2011 on charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy. While Raja was released on bail in 2012, this scam highlighted the need for transparency in public office.

    In the year 2008, the Telecom Ministry under

    Mr.ARaja issued 122 Licenses of the 2 G Spectrum..


    Compared to the year 2001 and the year 2008 the

    demands for Mobile Phones and the related services have increased by more than 20 times.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
    A COMPANY WHO WANTS TO ACQUIRE 2G

    SPECTRUM.
    The that company should be well reputated.. It should have there goodwill In market..

    That company should be at least 10 years old..

    BSNL

    TOTAL ASSUMED LOSS CAUSED TO GOVERNMENT


    AS PER THE CVC REPORT,, THE TOTAL

    LOSS CAUSED TO GOVERNMENT WAS OF AROUND 22,000 CRORES..

    AS PER CAG REPORT,, IT WAS ASSUMED

    AROUD 60,000 CRORES..

    ACTUAL LOSS

    On February 2, 2011, the CBI arrested Raja along with his aide, R. K. Chandolia, and Siddharth Behura, the former Telecom Secretary.
