Camera Angles Explained

Birds eye view angles are used in order to show the surroundings and emphasise the more visible emotions of the subject , eg. Lonliness,

Long shots are used to emphasise the setting that surrounds the character and places them into context

Over the shoulder shots shows us what the character is looking at. It connects the viewer to the character and gives an insight into their world

High angle shots are used to make us sympathise with the subject as it sets them against the world around them and makes them appear more vulnerable.

Extreme close ups seem very personal and intense and as such they are used mainly in films that capitalise on that feeling such as horror films and thrillers

Eye level shots are generally used to connect the viewer to the subject, as though they are looking and speaking directly to you. They are most commonly used in scenes of extended dialogue
