MERCHANDISE STRATEGIES
To start with the definition , focus separately on the word merchandise and strategy' , defines a company position , merchandise on the other hand refers the basic products mix that the retailer offer to the end customer. Thus , a merchandising strategy is defined as company position with respect to a given product mix aimed of assuring optimization of resources, achieving target ,sales and margins and reducing stock out and or marketing .

The merchandise strategy , in dicates the position that a particular buyer / merchandiser adopts with respect to the following criteria. 1. The product to be sourced. 2. The terms & condition agreed with the vendor & supplier. 3. The pricing strategy to be adopted. 4. The method of packaging and presentation to the end customer.

The corporate strategy of a retail organization influences the buying strategy ,while the corporate strategy serves as a guiding framework for each and every department within the organization, the strategy is more specific for organization , it serves as a guide for the function of buying as well as to decide the time frame for specific action to be accomplished. Thus , while the buying strategy is a reflection of the corporate strategy is specific only to the companys buying department.
