Strangers To The Covenant

 We saw last week how a covenant is words between two parties that define mutual love and commitment

 It is in the context of RELATIONSHIP that covenant is cut. THREE MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS:
1. Relationship of a believer and God 2. Relationship between spouses 3. Relationship of believers with one another

 The basis of ALL these relationships is covenant, because these are all meant to be lasting and solemn

 Covenant is one of Gods secrets. Secrets sre only understood by REVELATION

The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant Ps.25:14

 God entered into covenant with men who feared Him not understood Him.
Adam was the first covenant man But he failed and the covenant was trampled on by subsequent generations.

 But God is a covenant God. He does not lie, neither does He change His mind. Covenants were important because they revealed what was heretofore unknowable.

 3 things a covenant does:

1.It reveals the character of the parties involved
And to the Jews Character was everything Every matter was a reflection of covenant How you treated your wife, your business, your worship

 2. It reveals the motives of the person with whom you covenant.

If you had bad intent, that mattered as much as the act itself. Men are born selfish and tend to act in self-interest and self-preservation. God on the other hand is LOVE. Love gives

 3. It reveals the overall plan of the person you enter into covenant with and defines where YOU fall in.
