UTLA House of Reps Q&A

Q: What is the purpose of each government body? A. The Officers (President, VPs, Treasurer, etc.) make up the Board of Directors and help

oversee the daily operations of UTLA. Their role is to ensure the voice of membership is implemented according to the decisions made by the House of Reps. The Board of Directors is composed of 50 members that help carry out those mandates. The 33 Committees help establish UTLA policy and contract proposals. The Chapter Chairs are building/site representatives who facilitate contract enforcement. The House of Representatives is the official governing body of UTLA.

Q: Can anyone self-nominate to be a House of Representatives official? A. Sure! As long as you are a UTLA member in good standing as of August 31, 2012. Q: How do I self-nominate? A. The process is simple; just complete the self-nomination form and turn it in by the

November 9, 2012 deadline. Self-nomination forms will be available in the October 19, 2012 edition of the United Teacher (UTLA newspaper) and on the Teachers for a New Unionism website (www.teachersforanewunionism.com). Submit your completed application to the Secretary Office at UTLA, 3303 Wilshire Blvd. 10th Floor, LA 90010.

Q: What will the election entail and who votes? A. In the recent past, elections have not been necessary for the House of Reps because Q: How long is my term? A. Two years.
