Author: _Helen Hernandez_ Instructor: _Mrs. Kling_ Date:_9/18/2012_ The Artifact Description of conversion experience Tell our audience about the artifact. I discovered an amazing historical artifact in my grandparent's attic. It is a book. The book was created by Aaron Lummus in the year 1850. I think it was made because he wanted to try to make people convert as well. People who would have read or studied this item at the time it was created were maybe people who were thinking of changing religion who thought conversion may be a good idea. I think it is worth studying today to know how things were back then, and even though I dont agree with everything religions practice, I guess to learn about their beliefs even though I dont believe in them, simply to know what everyone thinks. Discuss how the artifact relates to a major event in U.S. history. The event that this artifact best relates to was the Second Great Awakening. This happened around the first half of the 1800s. One reason this event occurred was because: many people felt their churches and religious leaders needed more excitement and inspirational sermons. Tell me what happened during this event. People participated in this event through three main ways: 1 Testification of sins. They shouted their sins to the heavens in front of many people. 2 Committees to work on issues like slavery, poverty, and rights of women 3 The went to a camp. Important people involved included: I am not sure what the answer is. Many participants were women because I dont think the lesson explained why, but I am guessing it may be because of all that was going on about womens right. They thought that maybe the church would help them. Explain the meaning of "social reform." Discuss how this event relates to social reform. Give an example. Social reform is

A social reform movement is a group of people working toward making a change through law to improve the community. Social reform relates to this event because I think he went to one. An example of a social reform directly related to the book is that he did this with Mr.Brown and Mr.Young. What was another major event happening in the United States during this time? Another major U.S. event happening during this time was the election of Jackson, and all that was studied in the previous lesson.
