Benefits of Personal Training

Serious athletes have long used personal trainers to enhance their performance in competition. Movie stars are known to hire personal trainers to keep them fitting into their Oscar gowns. But the people who benefit most from personal training are ordinary men and women seeking to be stronger and function more effectively in their everyday lives. Working with a trainer, anyone can achieve their fitness goalsgoals as modest as touching your toes again or as ambitious as preparing to run a marathon. Whether you want to lose weight, regain flexibility, develop speed or simply feel good again, personal training is an activity that you will continue to reap benefits in years to come. Our personal trainers main objectives are to assist, guide, and educate those who wish to experience a greater ease and physical ability in their lives.

Free Simply Music Workshop!

December 4 and 11 Simply Music is a remarkable, Australian-developed piano method that guarantees to have you playing great-sounding music from your very first lessons! Traditional piano lessons require students to learn how to read music as the means of learning how to play. This read first, play later approach is slow and frustrating, and far too many students never acquire the ability to play. In contrast, Simply Music uses a revolutionary approach, focusing on the sheer joy of playing and producing immediate results. We then introduce reading after students have developed a natural connection to the piano and can play a huge repertoire. Gone are the relentless hours of drills, scales and boring practice sessions. Even if you have no musical experience, this remarkable method guarantees extraordinary results and will immediately have you playing contemporary, classical, blues, gospel and accompaniment pieces. Join us for a free introductory lesson on December 4 and December 11 from 6:007:00 p.m. with Lynn Sanders.

Come join the hottest critical thinking and problem-solving program in Chicago and engage your children with an educational adventure. Kids Science Labs has developed innovative hands-on classes for kids age two through twelve using our unique inquiry-based LIFES Curriculum (Learning Innovation, Fun Engineering, and Science). By engaging kids with the hands-on science they love early and with regular frequency year round we help enable a generation of amazing critical thinkers regardless of their future careers. All classes are built on activities based on core science principles that are framed as questions that your kids ask you everyday. We start every class with a question that kids ask and then use science activities with the guidance of outstanding teachers to explore the answers. Our instructors are certified teachers and scientists. Examples of our science fundamentals series include: how Spider-man walks on walls (pressure and suction), how tape works (adhesives), and why bowling pins fall down (momentum), and even projectile motion in a class called Flying Chickens. Each week we address a new question and explore how things work. MEET OUR KARATE INSTRUCTORS

Frank Chrzanowski, chief instructor, developed the Traditional Karate Program for Winnetka Community House in 1989. He has trained in Karate since 1975 and has attained the rank of fourth degree black belt in the Japan Karate Association. He has been featured in articles in the Chicago Tribune, the Sun Times and the Pioneer Press, and has appeared on local and national television programs. Ron Stein has trained in karate since 1981. His karate experience extends to Europe and Japan, where he lived for four years, training under many instructors and studying various Japanese martial arts. His karate teaching experience includes The University of Chicago, The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the United States Marine Corps. He has been with Winnetka Community House Karate Program since 1994.

About Our Karate Program

Traditional Karate is a martial art which emphasizes the principles and applications of weaponless self-defense. Our Karate Program follows a systemized belt ranking for all participants. There are 11 belt levels (kyu) before first-degree black belt (shodan). A new student is assigned the white belt rank (eleventh kyu). One must fulfill certain requirements under normal practice conditions and in a test environment to secure progressive promotions up to and including the black belt (dan) levels. Puppy Class is designed to provide a positive environment for socialization of puppies to a wide variety of people as well as to each other. Early socialization has been shown to greatly reduce the incidence of both human-directed aggression and dog-dog aggression, as well as anxiety and fear based behavior problems. Additional topics will be discussed such as addressing the common puppy issues of house training, mouthing, leadership and preventing behavior problems. Puppies will also learn sit and begin recall training (coming when called). This class is appropriate for puppies ages 24 months old. Dogs must have received at least two rounds of vaccinations prior to attending. If your dog has not yet received the second round, please plan to attend class without your puppy until the second round of vaccination has been administered.

Creative Paws, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Ashlee Trotter, BS, CPDT-KA, and provides group classes and private lessons for dog obedience training and behavior problems. Ashlee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Michigan State University. Prior to pursuing her dog training interests she honed her skills of positive reinforcement training while working with zoo animals at facilities in the Midwest. She has been recognized for several years as a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator by the American Kennel Club, as well as a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) by the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers, an affiliate organization of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the first organization to offer a national standard for trainer certification. Ashlees competition dog Spirit is the American Kennel Clubs (AKC) #1 ranked German Wirehaired Pointer in agility for 20082012. He is the 2nd of his breed to earn an AKC Master Agility Championship title, as well as the only German Wirehaired Pointer to reach the finals of an AKC National Agility event, a feat Ashlee has handled him to accomplish twice. Aside from agility he is titled in traditional obedience, rally obedience, tracking, hunting and dock diving for a combined total of 26 titles and counting. Creek is Ashlees future competition dog. He is also a German Wirehaired Pointer and is currently training for agility, traditional obedience and rally obedience. He has lofty goals to live up to the achievements of his predecessor, Spirit.

Creative Paws uses positive reinforcement training methods to improve the relationship between dog and handler by providing an effective means of communication and understanding as the Obedience 101 teaches the basics of obedience: sit, down, stand, recall foundation for learning. We believe that training your dog should (coming when called), stay, and heeleverything your companion dog needs be enjoyable for both you and your dog! to know! Both verbal commands and hand signals will be used. Dogs of any age may take this class. Positive reinforcement techniques will be used, so For more information, please visit www.creativepaws.com or email training@creativepaws.com. please bring food rewards or a small toy with you to class. Obedience 102 is focused on honing the skills of Obedience 101. Additional levels of difficulty and distractions will be added. Dogs of any age may enroll provided they have a basic knowledge of basic obedience commands: sit, down, recall (coming when called), stay, and heel.

Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless and defend Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or losses sustained by me or arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with the activities of the program.
