JV Blue vs.

Kingwood 10/17 This was a good, tough game with lots of great plays on both sides of the ball throughout the evening for the Bearkats. It was back and forth on the scoreboard, and then in the 4th quarter the Kats couldnt connect and catch the Mustangs. The offense got off to a slow start with a fumble on the first play but on their next play from scrimmage, Aaron Hunt ran it 70+ yards for a touchdown. Both teams had trouble with the extra points so it was 6-6. After a short pass to Wyatt Coatney, Hunt took another run inside the 10 and scored a couple of plays later. At the half the Mustangs were up 16-13. In the second half it was similar offense output, Hunt running strong and passes to several targets, including Dakota Anderson and Jack McHugh. In a late rally, QB Upchurch found McHugh in the end zone for a score to get it a little closer. In the final drive, McHugh out jumped the Kingwood defenders and snatched the ball out of the air for a critical gain. Hunt runs it inside the 20 and Anderson catches a quick pass to set up a possible score. However, the Bearkats couldnt capitalize. The defense played solid and made some critical stops. Some of the key performers were Ryan Bullock, Tim McHugh, Alek Matthews, Tywon Solomon and Shakeel Yusif, John Gibson and Dominique Morgan. McHugh had a big tackle for loss and was hitting guys in the backfield often. Solomon had a stop at the end of the 1st half that held the Mustangs to a field goal. When they needed a stop in the 4th quarter, Bullock and Zach Parkins made key plays stuffing the Mustangs option. We had some good opportunities and lost an onside kick that really hurt the momentum in the 2nd half. Final score was 30-19 Mustangs. The record is 4-4 and we head to DeKaney for the next game.
