JV Blue vs.

Katy
August 30, 2012
The season got started for the JV Blue team with good play in all facets of the game. Early on it looked like the team who had the ball last would be the one to win. The offensive line set a great tone with tough blocking up the middle and sealing off the edges. Dustin Smith, Jacob Lusk, Tre Newton, Kyle Babbitt, Daniel Yetter, Wyatt Coatney, Nick Kirincic, Austin Stelter, and Alex Ward worked together on the line for a solid start to the season. Aaron Hunt, Tim McHugh, and Jahleel Blocker ran the ball out of the backfield along with a couple of scrambles by QB, Aiden Upchurch. Hunt had several long runs for TDs: 30+ 75+ and 55+. Upchurch found several receivers throughout the night. Jack McHugh, Trayvien White, and Wyatt Coatney had passes thrown their way. McHugh caught a TD pass in the 1st half. The defense also played solid all over the field. Ryan Bullock, Dakota Aplanalp, Isaiah Carrizalez, Alex Matthews and Tywon Solomon made tackles at linebacker. Dominique Morgan, Zachary Parkin and Coleman Suydan anchored the squad with good D-line play. Morgan made a couple of plays in the Katy backfield and the defense forced a fumble. In the secondary, Ronnie Gaydos, Grant Bradley and Dakota Anderson played solid with Gaydos getting an interception and Bradley breaking up a pass. Add to that, special teams made some big plays. Jeff Norales took a kickoff from Katy to the house and had a big hit on kickoff coverage. Sharing duty at kicker Grant Bradley really boomed a couple of kickoffs and Alex Ables tacked on 5 extra points. All in all a great team effort from the boys as the score went back and forth. It was 14-14 at half time and 28-28 to start the 4th quarter and 35-35 in the middle of the last quarter. However, Katy was able to punch in a late 4 th quarter drive to secure the win for the Tigers 42-35. With an opener that has 72 points scored we are in for a fun season!
