Kellyville Black came out firing against

Toongabbie today, but had to come back from one
down at the break and contend with some
contentious decisions.

The warm up was cut short as Fewelly went to check

on the plumbing at Giraween Park....very polite as he
explained to the team he just needed to duck o for a
poo.
A quick start from the Blacks on the small pitch had
Toongabbie chasing shadows and the ball across the
park. Dame again marshalling the defence in style and
ensuring Nolan got plenty of touches.
Noons and Naya controlled the right early....but the x
factor was missing and once Vic went down injured,
Rich was released to run amok down the sideline.
A goal pinched by Toonie was undeserved, but they
then found something and set about working hard to
frustrate the Blacks and defend their lead. They
managed to do that to the break as the Blacks couldnt
get out out of second gear.
Halftime saw the big boys stand up to speak....Dame
explaining the need to be closer, in defence, Minol
preaching the sequel to bounce: move early and move
often.....run smart, anticipate....and so on, Vlad said
something too?
They can all have the credit as the second half saw
everybody work together in defence, closing in
numbers, giving Toonie very little time with the ball.
The movement then became harder and harder for
Toonie to stay with as the Blacks ran smarter,
anticipating the play...being proactive rather than
reactive (...Im sure Im gonna wake up a cold sweat in
the middle of the night, hearing a combination speech
from Dame, Minol and Vlad! - go early, hold your run,
shut em down, tuck in, get out, stay outside, get inside,
shoot, pass, stand still, juggle, dont juggle etc etc)
The first came after sustained pressure earned another
corner. A near post cross finding Minol falling at the
near post confusing defenders. The clearance then
bouncing straight o of Doz and in.

Five minutes later, the frustration for Toonie of loosing

the lead and feeling they might have been hard done by
in a play on/tackle call, played out with the sweeper
being sent to sit down as a stray word or two floated in
the direction of the young ref.
The Blacks stepped up again and soon after Rich
picked up yet another ball and looked up to pick out
Doz with an early ball over the top that landed on his
foot, after clearing the defender perfectly - Dozs volley
with the class to match the class of the pass.
Alec made his return and looked like hed never been
away...dropping straight into the back of the midfield,
influencing the shape and space within the game.
(Trevor alert - skip now) The third was another quality
goal that showed the rewards for early movement....
Dame playing a ball from deep to Naya just over
halfway. Trev who started his run in the first half, ran by
Nayas inside shoulder as he chested perfectly into his
path. Trev backed his speed and went for home.....what
seemed like minutes later he arrived in the box and
drilled his shot in at the far post giving the keeper no
chance.
A wake up came as Toonie got a pen after an
unfortunate handball as bodies went down in the box.
Toonie were inspired to try and pinch something so
needed to be dealt a knock out blow - Fewelly delivered
it! A corner following a Rich volley that was unlucky
not to see him score, was delivered on the money by
Jaime. Fewelly showing the power that will see him
collect plenty more this season as he rose high near the
penalty spot and gave the defenders and keeper
absolutely no chance.
The defensive eort in the half was rewarded as the
front line closed in numbers and forced an error that
saw Doz pick up a loose ball and play Naya early. Naya
convincing everybody he was gonna play Trev in and
then laughing out loud as his dummy? worked and he
was left to face the keeper from 12 yards...nice finish.
Ramping up the pressure....
...and many players coming back or due soon.
