V Toongabbie

Round 7 Giraween Park, Toongabbie

Greystanes

please explain....

Follow the leader!

The Black Kolts went to the

top of the table with a
brilliant win over the
previous table topping
Toongabbie.

The quality of the squad

was on show as some had to
miss the match (man flu taking
out the marquee and a fox)
and others had to step up.
Fewelly and Aleks were tough,
taking injuries into the game
and putting their usual quality
games in.

A few who had been

missing recently joined back in
without missing a beat.
The pre-game speech
showed that despite having a
big headache, Vlad could
deliver a typically abusive and
strangely supportive rant to get
everybodys mind on the job!
The Kolts got away on the
front foot and soon began to
dominate territory and
possession.
Toongabbie showing
glimpses of the game that had

put them top of the

table....playing to a skilful
target and bringing a
playmaker in behind him - only
problem the target had Dame
and Fewelly shutting him down
and Donny and Jamie
squashing their play in midfield
before they could get started!!!
With the ball the Kolts
looked to unpick them, getting
in behind out wide and putting
crosses in....

...Doriano and Duggan worked hard up

front - Doz attracting defenders and winning
free kicks....over and over!. Duggan pushing
the line and bringing Dan and Harry into the
game.
Noons and Adam found the perfect
balance between attacking and keeping a
defensive shape - ensuring the Kolts controlled
the game.
Late in the half though Toonie found a way
into the edge of the box and....(look away
now if youre not going to be able to stomach
a slow motion retelling of the greatest
defensive header in history)
...with the season on the line, the Toonie
striker managed to beat a few Kolts in the
box. He went to the byline and lifted his head
to choose between the Toonie playing
dropping to the penalty spot or the player at
the far post. Trev, slowing everything down,
summed it up perfectly as he saw the players
eyes and shoulder give away the far post
ball.....diving full length....at full pace the
header made contact...from centre goal and
a metre out with the ball at hip height, Trev
drove the header wide of the far post - quality
that possibly could never be repeated!
0-0 at the break.
The second half saw an even more
dominant display from the Kolts. With Dame
marshalling the troops, the ball was moved
around quickly and any chances were quickly
snuffed out.
Naya, Doz, Dan and more found their
way in and around the Toonie box and put
continued pressure on the Toonie defence.
The midfield and backline controlled the
ball quickly from Toonies attempted counter
attacks and played feet as much as possible.

The tempo lifted and Toonie resorted to

constantly fouling as the Kolts zipped around.
Adam was caught on the edge of the
area, midway through the half.....with foul 30
plus! The ensuing free kick saw some Vic hit
an unstoppable curling dipping drive over the
wall and in under the crossbar with the
keeper diving and catching thin air as the ball
hit the back of the net!!! (I cant wait for the
day when Doz, Minol and Vic all score from
a free kick in one game!)
Toonie tried to push on, needing an
equaliser but the Kolts held firm. A move
down the right from Toonie found a man in
the middle with a strong header that floated
over.
Another cross creating a half chance
shortly after, saw Nolan hit a rock solid
punch - clearly sending the message that the
Kolts were not going to concede!! (and
confirming another clean sheet for the Kolts)
With minutes remaining Doz, ran into the
box (after a well taken long goal kick from
Aleks!) and was brought down by the keeper
- penalty. The Toonie lads got a little excited
afterwards and a red card was shown to the
keeper for introducing himself to Dave.
Aleks then coolly slotted the pen (after a
five minute wait!) and duly limped off with a
strained muscle!
The 2-0 result was a well deserved squad
win with everyone putting in and playing their
part....Well done Blacks! Congrats to Dame
(follow the leader), Donny and Doz - man of
the match stand outs. Dans work rate was
awesome working up and back ....dont know
how that explains his night out last night
though?
