The Game: After a tremendous performance against in-state rival Ave Maria, Edward Waters will return home for the final time this season as they will face NCAA Division III member Southern Virginia on Saturday November10. EWC will celebrate Senior Day as nine seniors will play their final home contest for the Tigers. Kickoff from Earl S. Kitchings Stadium at Raines H. S. is set for 1:00pm. This will be the fourth meeting all-time between these two schools with Southern Virginia holding a 2-1 advantage. EWC picked up their first victory in the series last season with a 38-15 victory over the Knights in Buena Vista, VA. The Last Time Out: Edward Waters faced off with in-state rival Ave Maria last Saturday in the 2012 Ralph J. Bunche Football Classic in Kingsland, Georgia. EWC dominated from start to finish, defeating the Gyrenes 48-14 a victory which snapped the Tigers two-game losing streak. The EWC defense set the tone in the game by setting a new modern day record for interceptions in a game with five, with two of those returned for touchdowns. So. DB Kevin Hutchings picked off AMUs starting QB Drake Sunderland three times including a 45 yard interception return for a TD. His three picks tied an EWC single-game record. Starting Sr. QB Brandon Turman led the EWC offense with 136 yards rushing on 23 carries as well as going 920 passing for 122 yards and a touchdown. Both players were named defensive & offensive players of the game for their efforts. With the win, EWC finished the season 3-0 against NAIA competition, swept their in-state rivals for the first time since 2008, and took home their sixth Ralph J. Bunche Classic trophy. Across The Field: The Southern Virginia Knights enter this, their season finale on a roll winners of their last two contests & three out of their last five. After spending their first six years as an NAIA member, the Knights moved up to NCAA Division III this season. Edward Waters & SVU have three common opponents in the 2012 season with Ave Maria, Webber International, & next weeks opponent Virginia University of Lynchburg. Last Saturday, SVU defeated Webber International, 27-6 in the Knights final home game of the season. SVUs starting QB is Fr. Andy Jones who through 10 games has gone 59-121 for 640 yards and 7 TDs, while completing 48% of his passes. The two-prong rushing attack is led by Sophomores Jamal Coates & Jerry Washington. Coates has 302 yards on 102 attempts and 3 TDs, while Washington has 295 yards rushing on 87 carries and one TD. Sr. WR Cameron Williams is AMUs leading receiver with 33 receptions for 433 yards & six TDs. The Knights are led by fourth year head coach DeLane Fitzgerald who has a 15-28 overall record during his tenure in Buena Vista. With A Win: The Tigers will move to 6-5 on the season, have a two-game winning streak, ensure EWCs second consecutive non-losing season, & finish the 2012 season undefeated at home for the first time since 1964.
