----Compiled by Mrinalini Choudhury

14th November as we all know is celebrated as Childrens Day in memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India. Although the United Nation celebrates Childrens Day on November 20th every year to promote togetherness and awareness among children worldwide; in India we prefer celebrating it on 14th of November to honour our own Chacha Nehru, known for his love towards children. He believed that children are the future of the nation thus he quoted: The Future of India is based on Todays Child. The trend of Childrens Day in India on November 14th was established only after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in the year 1963. Childrens Day is a day dedicated to childhood, a day to celebrate one of the best years of human life. Its a day of tribute to the children of the world saying thank you for making life look so beautiful, as they win over hearts with their pure and innocent smiles. India cherishes Childrens day with much fun filled activities focusing on children, a platform for them to learn something new and showcase their talent. All over the world, Childrens Day might be celebrated on varied dates, for varied reasons, however the importance or the prime focus remains same: Childrenand bringing a smile to their faces.
