How has research into the music industry helped you understand the process of making a video?

24/11/2012 05:31:00 Researching has enabled me to understand the costs and budgeting in making a music video. It is crucial to know the budget range before producing a music video, to ensure you dont go overboard with anything, and that you plan the best for the budget. Planning is crucial! It is important to storyboard, and create animatic so that you can get a taste of how your final product would be like! I did this, and it is because of the storyboarding and the creation of an animatic, I enhanced my original narrative and plot, because the original animatic looked dull, not continuous and it importantly did not make sense. Lip syncing must be in time to make the video look realistic nobody wants to see a music video of an artist lip syncing out of tune. The research has also allowed me to understand and identify the codes and conventions of a successful music video following Andrew Goodwins theory. * A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics. * A relationship between the music and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the music. * Genre-related style and iconography present. * Multiple close-ups of the main artist or vocalist. * Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females. * Intertextual references to other media texts may be present.
