Madison advocated a democratic republic form of government over a pure democracy because at the time the population of the US was too large and would continue to grow larger which could not be handled and organized by the methods of a pure democracy. In addition, Madison added that a democratic republic form of government could control the uprising of different factions that began to gain power. With this form of government he argued that factions could still influence politics minorities and minority groups would remain protected as they had to negotiate their differences. This method could control the regulation of power between factions as no faction could have complete control of the government. This way majority would rule however minorities would still be taken into consideration. Madison thinks that, the most common and durable source of factions has been the various and unequal distribution of property. I believe that factions are a danger to our nation because the differences and battles between parties and the division in Washington has prevented the US from gaining any development that benefits Americans as a whole. Further divisions such as lefties and righties also cause battles between the nation rather than contributing ideas to benefit the nation. Factions only cause mini civil wars within the nation which disrupts our opportunity to benefit ourselves. The 2012 presidential election shows us that factions still exist and they serve only as an opposition to other factions who try to gain power. Madison said that a democratic republic would not allow one faction to have complete power of the government however in this case it would be better for one faction to have complete control because we see two factions who each have about half the power in government which is in my opinion worse because we see our government split right down the middle. Factions create splits in government only leaving time for debate on which policies or laws should be promoted or rejected. Finally once a faction wins there spot in government they further try to increase their power and role in how the country should be run, and also try to remain in power for as long as possible abiding to the rules of how long one can hold their job as senator, president, etc.
