What type of magazine do I want to create? From my research, I am interested in creating a music magazine that focuses on pop music. However, I have found two magazines that I like; Billboard and Top of the Pops. Billboard is aimed at young adults, while TOTP is aimed at children and preteens. I am interested in creating a magazine that combines the two I want the upmarket, world famous artists and sleek look of Billboard but with the fun, gossipy content of TOTP. I feel that there is a niche market for this, as my magazine will appeal to teenagers who are too old for TOPTPs childish style but too young for Billboards sophistication.
Target Audiences
Billboard
The target audience is teenagers and young adults, from about 18 25. It features mainly pop and chart music, however it does feature interviews from other genres. It is targeted mainly at girls, but many men have also graced the cover. It is also used by industry professionals to collect sales information and figures. The target audience are interested in clothes, style, going to concerts and pop music. The magazine caters for this by including style pages, concert reviews and loads of features on pop artists.
