ROMO AWARDS: Minor League Baseball and the Topps Company announced that Jackson second baseman Stefen Romero was among the nine players selected to the Topps Double-A All-Star Team. He hit .352 (167x474) with 85 runs scored, 64 extra-base (2B - 34, 3B - 7, HR - 23) and 101 RBI in 116 games combined between A High Desert and AA Jackson. In only his second professional season, Romero finished 3rd amongst all full season minor leaguers in average and was named to the Baseball America 2012 SecondTeam All-Star team as a second baseman. Romero was named to the California League All-Star team before being promoted to Jackson on June 21. With the Generals he hit safely in 47 of 55 games with an at-bat, while batting .347 (75x216). Romero hit .333 (15x45) with 7 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBI in 11 games with the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League. Romero, a native of Tucson, Arizona, attended Oregon State University from 2009-10 and was the Mariners 12th round selection in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. AFL TOP PROSPECT: Catcher Mike Zunino and infielder Nick Franklin were choosen the 2012 Arizona Fall League's Top Prospects Team. Each of the seven AFL team had two representatives on the team. Franklin set season-highs in both hits and RBI on Nov. 11 vs. Phoenix, going 4x5 with 1 run scored, 2 doubles and 6 RBI. Overall, he hit .338 (26x77) with 13 runs, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 22 RBI in 20 games with the Javelinas. Zunino hit 2 triples, going 3x5 with 1 run scored, 2 triples and 1 RBI on Oct. 13 at Scottsdale. He reached base safely in 18 of 19 games, batting .288 (23x80) with 10 runs, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 15 RBI. Franklin led the Javelinas and ranked 2nd in the AFL with 22 RBI, while Zunino finished T2nd n the team with 15 RBI. LORD FARQUHAR: LH Danny Farquhar is 1-1 with 3 saves and a 1.17 ERA (2 ER, 15.1 IP) in 15 relief appearances with Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League. He has limited opponents to a .196 (11x56) average, while walking 6 and striking out 19. After allowing a run on Nov. 2, Farquhar has tossed 5.0 scoreless innings over his last 5 appearances. During this stretch he has limited opponents to a .063 (1x16) average, while walking 1 and striking out 6. OFF TO A HOT START: LH Brian Moran has struck out 8 in 4.1 innings in relief over his first 3 appearances with Atenienses de Manati in the Peurto Rican Winter League. He picked up the win in his last start on Nov. 26 vs. Leones de Ponce (1.1,1,0,0,0,2). SOUTHPAW: LH Mauricio Robles is 0-0 with a 1.74 ERA (2 ER, 10.1 IP) in 12 relief appearances with Tiburones de La Guaira in the VWL. He has limited opponents to a .194 (7x36) average, while walking 6 and striking out 7. He tossed 6.2 scoreless innings, Oct. 31Nov. 14. Robles (1.0,2,0,0,0,0) also tossed a scoreless outing on Oct. 13 with Lara in the VWL, before joining La Guaira. OF NOTE: RH Carson Smith went 1-1 with a 2.40 ERA (4 ER, 15.0 IP) in 11 relief appearances with Peoria. He finished 5th on the Javelinas roster in innings, including leading all relievers. Smith allowed only 1 earned run in first 10.1 innings (0.87 ERA), including 7.1 scoreless innings from Oct. 17-31, before allowing 3 runs over his final 4 games to raise ERA from 0.87 to 2.40. INF Nick Franklin (1x3), C Mike Zunino (0x2) and LHP James Paxton (1.0,2,0,0,1,2) represented the Mariners on the West Division Rising All-Star squad. INF/OF Vinnie Catricala hit safely in his final 8 games with the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League, batting .419 (13x31) with 4 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 home run and 5 RBI. Overall he hit .279 (19x68) with 5 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs and 13 RBI. RHP Eramso Ramirez went 0-2 with a 4.30 ERA (7 ER, 14.2 IP) in 4 starts with Cardenales de Lara. Ramirez (1.2,4,5,4,2,1) recorded the loss in Nicaraguas 1-8 loss to Colombia on Nov. 2 in the WBC Qualifier #3.
