Ninth-Inning Comebacks: After taking the 2012 season opener 6-5 over the DuPage Hounds on June 2, the Will County CrackerJacks gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on June 3 and lost to DeKalb 6-5. The CrackerJacks (1-1) travel to Whiting, Ind., tonight to meet the Northwest Indiana Oilmen (31) for the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. The Oilmen manufactured a ninth-inning rally of their own yesterday, scoring four times in the bottom of the ninth inning to knock off Southland 5-4. Fitting Right In: CrackerJacks shortstop Daniel Nevares is off to a hot start for the Will County club in 2012. Through his first 10 at-bats, the Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, native has collected five hits, including four doubles, and five RBIs. In Saturdays loss to DeKalb, Nevares broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth inning by doubling into the left centerfield gap to score Hayden Martin and give his team a 5-4 lead at the time. Spellcheck: University of Alabama product Mike Oczypok will make his CrackerJacks debut tonight against the Oilmen. Oczypok (64/225 lbs.), a native of Royersford, Pa., was named the 2011 Southeast Pennsylvania Player of the Year following his senior year at Spring-Ford High School. He redshirted his first season at Alabama and has four years of eligibility remaining. Its a Marathon, Not a Sprint: After the first five days of the Midwest Collegiate League regular season, each of the eight clubs in the league have posted at least one win and one loss. The Oilmens three wins lead the South Division and the league. DeKalbs 2-1 record puts them atop the North Division standings in the early-goings.
