Seminar 1 Discussion Questions (40 points total):

There are two parts to the Discussion Question Assignment (be sure to read both Part I
and Part II). Use clear paragraphs with headings for your responses to the Part I Discussion
Question and then for Part II, your question to the class.

Part I (30 points total):

You have four different options to choose from for Part I of your Discussion Question. You only
need to post a response for one of these (1, 2, 3, or 4). Your responses for Part I should be 1-
2 paragraphs in length at minimum.
.

3. There are four levels of measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio.
• Describe each,
• Give an example of where you personally see these and use these measures used in
your own daily life.
a. nominal

b. ordinal

c. interval

d. ratio

Nominal is an either/or question, there are no "degrees" of this answer.

The book gives the answer of a yes no question. I would give the answer of multiple choice
questions.

Ordinal measurements can be arranged in an order but the differences between data values
cannot be determined and or are meaningless
The book gives the answer of grades. My answer would be the belts in karate.

Interval just like ordinal but you can add and subtract them but there is no "0" starting point.
The book cites temps and years my answer is going to be the y or x axis points in a 4
quadrants.

Ratio is just like interval but there is a starting point.

The book definitions are weights and prices. This one was hard so I’m going to go with
heights.

Part II (10 points total):

My question to the class is:
Can data measurements be in more than one of the categories?
