Fisk University Students Host Christmas at Fisk: Winter Wonderland

Student-Run Event Gives Toys and Gifts to Underserved Children

Nashville, Tenn. December 3, 2012 Fisk University will host its seventh Christmas at Fisk: Winter Wonderland on Thursday, December 6. Approximately 125 children from North Nashville will receive gifts and toys purchased with money raised and/or donated by Fisk student organizations. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Henderson Johnson Gymnasium on Fisks campus. This celebration is a highlight of the year because it demonstrates the best qualities of Fisk students, and our commitment to our community, said Vice President of Student Engagement and Enrollment Management Jason Meriwether. The evenings events include distribution of unwrapped gifts from students, games and activities for the children hosted by a Fisk student dressed as Santa. This annual occasion is organized by the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, Fisk Student Government Association, the Greek Letter Organizations and other Fisk student clubs. These organizations solicit wish lists from local children through the Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA and the Fisk THRUST & GUSTO after school programs. Students raise money and accept donations to fulfill the kids wishes. Fisks students have worked extremely hard to infuse the holiday season with love and enthusiasm said Morgan Woods, President of Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity. I love seeing our students brighten the faces of kids who participate in the program, especially when each receives a gift from Santas Workshop.
