Period 6 07 December 2012 Effects of Imperialism/Attitudes of Imperialism Imperialism has cropped up in many places all over the work and Australia is only one of the many that have just gotten rid of it in their own country. Imperialism is when a country takes over another foreign country either by military or political force. Australia was intended to be a British colony because of the imperialist attitudes. Unknown to them, British settlers brought diseases unknown to the native aborigines causing many to die. As if that was not bad enough, as their colonies grew, they killed and displaced a multitude of aborigines leaving them with no home and no land. In 1810, British colonist started attempting to send aborigine children to camps that served as a school of sorts that would civilize them. The movie The Rabbit ProofFence is a story about three young girls that are taken from their family, their story relates directly to actual aborigine children back in 1810. Most children taken to these schools run away soon after they arrive trying to return to their families. Different countries have different views upon the matters of imperialism but the main views are usually selfish, arrogant, and mislead. M.O. Neville is an antagonist from the movie The Rabbit Proof-Fence, he terrorizes the aborigine people of Australia. He might truly believe that he is doing the right thing but in reality his is killing people left and right, ruining lives, and separating families. He actually thinks that he is doing the right thing, but in reality he is doing the exact opposite of what his actual goal is. He tries to civilize the aborigine people but it just doesnt work, he uses force but that just causes more violence and malevolent thoughts from the people he is trying to help. Most of this work is counterproductive, causing progress but in the wrong direction, ultimately leading to a dark future full of hatred, death, and the possible extinction of a groups people, culture, and history.
