AT&T CADDIES IN COWS TO BOOST NETWORK, DRIVES SAFETY MESSAGE DURING AT&T NATIONAL
Company Expands Network Capacity, Makes Free Wi-Fi Available for Customers, Hosts Virtual Game to Encourage Safe Driving BETHESDA, MD, June26, 2012 As the Washington, DC area welcomes thousands of families for the AT&T National, one of the most exciting sports experiences for families and golf enthusiasts this year, AT&T is keeping its eye on the ball, caddying in enhancements to help customers enjoy a great wireless experience.

The company announced it will provide free Wi-Fi for AT&T customers and deploy two cell-on-wheels (COWs) to accommodate expected increased wireless network demands from high concentrations of smartphone users at the AT&T National. These measures are expected to help improve reliability and data speeds as the event runs through July 1.

In addition to these temporary network enhancements, AT&T launched its ultra-fast 4G LTE network in the greater Washington, DC area in November 2011, providing mobile Internet speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Just as cell phone etiquette on the golf course has changed, how people use wireless devices has changed as well. We use them everywhere, to capture the moment and share experiences, said Rob Forsyth, vice president and general manager for AT&T in the greater Washington/Baltimore area. Weve deployed a team of network engineers to help make sure our customers continue to enjoy great connectivity, solid coverage and fast speeds, on and off the course at the AT&T National.

While visitors are enjoying watching the pros drive the ball, they will also have the opportunity to participate in a unique driving experience of their own. A Texting and Driving Simulator hooked up to a luxury car- will be onsite at the AT&T National for attendees to experience. The simulator is part of AT&Ts It Can Wait anti-texting and driving campaign, which provides educational resources and lowcost tools to help pass on safe driving behavior to teens.

In a recent study commissioned by AT&T, more than half (53%) of kids reported that they have ridden in a car with someone who was texting and driving. As we help our customers to have an extraordinary wireless experience every day, we are also very committed to sharing the story about the dangers of texting and driving, J. Michael Schweder, president of AT&T Mid-Atlantic. While families enjoy their experience at the AT&T National, we think its a great time to provide customers with fun activities and low-cost tools to stay safe. AT&Ts mobile data network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T has the broadest international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in more than 225 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as mobile Internet services in more than 130 countries. AT&T also operates the nations largest Wi-Fi network** with nearly 30,000 hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to nearly 225,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesnt count against customers monthly wireless data plans.
