PLM2001 group presentations: how and why you are being assessed This group presentation is a form of formative

assessment. While it does not carry a grade, the process of carrying out the work and receiving feedback is a central aspect of the learning experience on this course. Your presentations will be assessed and you will receive feedback in three ways: 1) Peer assessment this will happen on the day of the presentations. Your fellow students will assess your groups performance in line with the assessment criteria outline on the next page.

2) Self assessment this will happen in the days immediately following the presentations. You are required to write 200 words, assessing your group's performance and email this to me as soon as possible. Things you might want to write about include:

How well did you work as a team? Did you encounter any problems, how did you overcome these? How well did you work as an individual in the team? Did you let others do the work, did you take on too much work yourself? How effective was your research? Did you rely on random internet searches or did you make effective use of academic resources, the trade press, archived materials etc? How effective was the presentation? Did you convey the key points in a clear and coherent manner? Was the presentation incisive and critical, or vague and descriptive? What might you have done differently? How might this have improved the presentation?

3) Tutor feedback and student self-reflection - this will happen in group tutorials scheduled for the week after the presentations. I will collate the peer assessments and offer a general summary of responses, before providing more specific feedback that draws on individual selfassessments. As part of this process I will invite students to reflect on their learning experience to consider what knowledge they have developed, what skills they have acquired, as well as to reflect on areas of weakness and the ways in which they might be improved in the future.
