The Normal Day

All right, first things first, the title of this chapter is a total oxymoron. This was no ordinary day- this was a very not normal day for me. But I guess I better start off the right way. Let me start over This is the story of a girl. That girl is me. Im Robyn Letterman, your average sixth grader at Ocean Point Middle School. (The name of our school is an oxymoron, too- we are NOWHERE near the ocean; were in South Dakota.) This is the story of a death. That death is mine. It all started on a normal day (maybe not so much of an oxymoron after all), a Friday. Fridays were chaotic at Ocean Point, throughout the whole town. Everybody was excited for the weekend, no matter who you were. Except for Homeless Joe, he cant even remember what day it is. Well, it was Friday, and it was a special Friday- this was Valentines Day Friday! Now, think of one of the most important things you do on a modern Valentines Day. Well, what is it? Right- you ask your love to be your Valentine. Well, in this case, I had to ask my crush- Finn Lockheart. His last name

makes a lot of sense- Finn put a lock on my heart- and now its his, whether he likes it or not. Finn was walking down the hall, going to seminar with his friend Sharky Hannagin. Sharky, of course, wasnt his real name. It was Sean, if Im right. Sharky and Finn turned the corner when I realized it was too late to ask Finn to be my Valentine. I started to run, although Im SUPER SLOW at running. I felt a hand on my shoulder. It couldnt be Mister Bucket, the math teacher; the hand was too light for that. I prayed that it wasnt Doctor Everton, our social studies teacher. It felt about right for her. I turned around slowly. My best friend, Abigail Larky, was standing looking me straight in the eyes. She had an oddly sincere look. Whatcha doin? she asked me like a four year old. I cant even imagine what Abi was like when she was four. I have to ask somebody something. I replied truthfully. Telling Abi stuff like what I was going to do was a bad idea. I saw Finn going down that way with Sharky, she said, grinning mischievously, Youre stalking them, arent you? WHAT?! NO! I shouted. WHY WOULD I STALK FINN AND SHARKY, LET ALONE ANYONE? Um Because you like

Finn? She gestured to the pink paper heart between my index finger and thumb. And because you want to ask him to be your Valentine but youre too scared to ask him so you just lurk behind in the shadows? Whatever! I reply, rolling my eyes, Yes, I was going to ask Finn to be my Valentine, but I wouldnt stalk him! Get real, Abi! You better go before Doctor Everton busts you! Whatever Abi said, walking away down the hall. I cant see how you like him. Ill admit, Finn wasnt the cutest guy in my hall, but he had a great personality. If I was going to get to him and not be late to seminar, Id either have to run, go to Ms. Embers room a few halls away actually during seminar, or get Finn to come to Ms. Packerss room. Hold on, lets pause for a second. Before we get to one of the key points in the story, I better explain the rest of this madness, and describe everything. Im good at describing things, according to my friend Coop Wilson. Anyways, I better tell you the important stuff. As you know, Im Robyn Cassidy Letterman. Im 12 years old, with short, dark brown hair that waves outwards at the ends. I have green eyes that Abi claims sometimes turn blue. Im 5 foot 6, as far as I know, so me being reasonably tall for a 12 year old

comes in handy. My friends describe me as nice, funny, and REASONABLY smart. And I have ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactive disorder. Abigail Victoria Larky, my best friend, had red hair that goes down to the middle of her back. She had hazel eyes and freckles on her cheeks. Abi is funny, friendly, and a GENIUS. Abi is friends with almost all of Ocean Point Middle School. In fact, her family is friends with nearly all of Ocean Point. Matthew Finn Lockheart, otherwise known as Matt or Finn, had brown hair in a near-Justin Bieber like cut. Finn had deep hazel eyes, a sharp, angular nose, and was tall. Sean William Hannigan, more commonly known as Sharky, was several feet shorter than his best mate Finn. He had blonde hair .
