TOOTH EXTRACTION - POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

DO NOT SMOKE for 24 hours DO NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL for 24 hours

DO NOT RINSE OR USE A MOUTHWASH for the rest of the day following extraction. From tomorrow and for the next few days, rinse your mouth regularly with either hot salty water or a mouthwash.

PAIN RELIEF - It is normal for the socket to be a tender following extraction. If pain relief is required, take paracetamol and ibuprofen (if permitted).

BLEEDING - If you notice bleeding from the socket, take a small gauze or handkerchief and bite down over the extraction site applying firm steady pressure for 15-30 minutes. If bleeding continues after this, contact the practice on 01382 226226. (Outside of normal working hours you are advised to contact NHS 24 on 08454 242424)
