S-Parameter Estimation of Microwave Devices
S-Parameter Estimation of Microwave Devices
AIM To simulate the RF Oscillator using ADS software and study the characteristics of the same.
The RF oscillators contain a "tank circuit" made up of inductors (coils) and capacitors, whose values determine the frequency. The RF oscillator was built on a high Q substrate material (RT-Duroid). An RF oscillator can be more accurate using feedback, where the output is sent back to the input for comparison. The phase-locked loop is a more elaborate version of feedback. Higher frequency RF oscillators can include the magnetron, used in radar systems, and the klystron used in microwave
telecommunications radios. Harmonic distortion occurs when an RF oscillator's components produce multiples of the original frequency. Shielding the entire circuit in a metal case and connecting it to ground reduces both unwanted transmission and noise coming in from outside.
Step4: From the component library select the appropriate component necessary for the required model.
Step5: Click on the necessary components and place the schematic windows of ADS.
Step6: Terminate both the ports of the oscillator using termination selected from the simulation-S_param library.
Step7: Click the S-param icon to open the S parameter simulation dialog box. In the dialog box gives the start, stop and step frequencies for the simulation.
RESULT: Thus the RF oscillator was designed and its characteristics was studied using ADS software.
