60 minute oral power point presentation: Title- Menopausal Sexual Health

Presentation description: The epidemiology, etiology, and treatment of female sexual dysfunction (FSD)
in peri-menopausal and menopausal women will be discussed. Treatment approaches covered will include
both naturopathic and conventional therapies. Recent research presented at the 2008 International Society
for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health conference will be cited.

Abstract: Research shows 80% of menopausal women report concerns of decreased sexual satisfaction.
This presentation will aid practioners ( N.D.s, M.D.s, P.A.s, nurses ) in recognizing and understanding
female sexual dysfunction(FSD) in their peri-menopausal and menopausal patients. Patient assessment
will include physical, hormonal, neurotransmitter, and pharmaceutical etiologies of FSD. Treatment
approaches will include lifestyle, botanical and nutritional medicines, hormonal therapy, and conventional
pharmaceutical therapies. Pertinent research literature will be cited.

Presenter biography: Michelle J. Pouliot N.D. is a naturopathic physician specializing in women’s health
care. She has been in practice at the Northwest Holistic Health Center for the past 18 years in Torrington,
Connecticut. She has been an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut. In the past 3 years, she
has taught full day seminars to physicians throughout the U.S. on the topic of Menopause, Sexual Health
and Osteoporosis. She has twice been a presenter at the New Hampshire Naturopathic Doctor annual
convention. She is currently, since 2005, following the epidemiology of vitamin D3 in her patient
population. She received her N.D., naturopathic doctorate, from Bastyr University in 1991, and a B.S. in
biochemistry and animal behavior from the University of Massachusetts in 1981.
