Title – Acute Respiratory Illnesses in Pediatrics

Short Description – Acute respiratory illnesses are mainstays in pediatrics. This lecture will
review the diagnostics, microbial agents, and newest researched therapies to treat and prevent
ARI in children. Topics include: bronchiolitis, croup, influenza, and pneumonia as well as the
newest research and dosing protocols on Vitamin C, D, Selenium, Zinc, and botanicals.

1) Learn diagnostic differentials for pediatric respiratory infections
2) Learn treatment protocols for treatment and prevention of ARI.
3) Review recent scientific literature on naturopathic therapies for ARI.

Outline
Review of presenting symptoms, labs, and imaging to differentiate between pediatric acute
respiratory infections – Bronchiolitis, croup, influenza, and pneumonia.
Review of recent scientific literature on naturopathic therapies – Vitamin A, C, D, E,
Selenium, Zinc, Iron, Fish Oil, Echinacea, Elderberry, Glycyrrhiza, Panax, Eleuthrococcus,
Andrographis, Garlic, and homeopathics.
Review of pediatric dosing protocols for treatment and prevention.

Pharmacy – Yes. Anti-viral pharmaceuticals will be reviewed.

Biography – Dr. Jared M. Skowron is full-time faculty at University of Bridgeport Naturopathic


Medical College, teaching Pediatrics, CPD, Lab Dx, and EENT. He has recently completed a
textbook on Naturopathic Pediatrics, and is a national lecturer. His private practice is in
Wallingford, CT where he specializes in autism, PDD, ADHD, and other pediatric conditions.
