2 Mode of operation
The Subscriber Charge Indication feature transmits the charges incurred for a call as meter pulses over the subscriber line to the subscriber. The subscriber needs a telephone or additional device with a suitable display facility. In the case of a PBX, a separate charge indicator for each line is recommended rather than a joint one for all lines. The meter pulses can be converted into currency units by a logic in the telephone. The meter pulses are transmitted to the terminal at a frequency of 16 kHz or 12 kHz. The meter pulse frequencies lie outside of the voiceband and do not affect the speech connection. The pulse length is between 120 ms and 180 ms, and the minimum pause length is 250 ms. The pulses are transmitted at either a high level (5.2 V) or a low level (2.2 V). Silent reversal can also be used for pulse metering. The frequency, level and pulse length are project-specific and dependent on the individual operator.
