COMPARISON BETWEEN CRUSHERS

Crushers can be classified into groups as follows: CRUSHER

Coarse or Primary breaking

intermediate or secondary

fine crushing

Primary crusher-ex jaw crusher, gyratory crusher Secondary breaking- ex reduction gyratory crusher, cone crusher, disk crusher Fine crushing- ex gravity stamp mill Following are the crushers under the scope of our syllabus Jaw crushers Gyratory crushers Cone crushers

Before discussing their difference we must know few terms Gape length:- It is the width of the receiving opening of the crusher Reduction ratio:- It is the ratio of maximum size of the particles in the feed & the product

The comparison between jaw & gyratory crusher is done below JAW CRUSHER GYRATORY CRUSHER

In choosing which to install for the specific purpose TAGGART suggested a law according to which if the hourly tonnage to be crushed divided by the square of the gape expressed in inches a quotient less than 0.115,use a jaw crusher;otherwise a gyratory.

Comparison between Gyratory & Cone crusher include following important points:

The Cone crusher is the most new and most economical of all the crushers

The principle of operation of gyratory & cone crusher is almost same But there are two exceptions. Firstly in Gyratory crusher the outside crushing surface flares in from top to bottom but in Cone crusher it is vice versa. Hence area of discharge gets increased

Secondly, upper crushing surface can be lifted in cone crusher but not in gyratory crusher.

Cone crusher can intake finer as well as coarser feeds. It has very great capacity and the cooling mechanism requires oil bath as well as oil cooler. But in gyratory only oil bath was required.

JAW CRUSHER: Jaw crusher consists of two faces or jaw one of which is stationary, being mounted rigidly in the crusher frame, and the other moving alternatively toward the stationary face and away from it by a small throw.

Jaw crushers also exist in three types

JAW CRUSHER

Blake

Dodge

telsmith

Comparison between blake and dodge crusher is as follows: Jaw crushers are classified according to point of minimum amplitude & according to the way of motion of movable jaw is transmitted.

BLAKE CRUSHER

DODGE CRUSHER

It is the oldest crushing machinery in use i.e. from 1858

It is newer technique being used

The movable jaw is hinged at the top so that maximum amplitude of motion is at the bottom of the crushing face The reverse is true for Dodge crusher.

It consists of two pitman & two toggles

it has lesser parts.just one toggle & no pitman

width of discharge opening varies

width of discharge opening remains constant.

The stresses developed are even

the stresses developed are uneven

Hence can be made in large Sizes

hence made in small sizes

Telsmith jaw crusher: It resembles Blake crushers in it motion of swinging jaw. It differs in the way the motion is transmitted i.e not by toggle & pitman but directly from an eccentric on the main shaft. Also it is newer machine not made in size so large as blake.

GYRATORY CRUSHERS: It consists of of two vertical , truncated , conical shells. The outer shell is stationary and its apex is pointing down the inner shell having its apex pointing up.the inner shell is made to rotate. It is also of following types

GYRATORY CRUSHER

Supported spindle

suspended spindle

parallel pinch

Supported spindle gyratory crusher is obsolete now Parallel pinch crusher is not really a gyratory crusher because crushing head rotates eccentrically instead of gyrating

The main difference between parallel spin & suspended spindle is that the crushing head generates cylinder instead of cone with its apex at the point of suspension so that the extent of pinch is same along the face of crushing head.
