Speech Frequency Manipulation

Speech Frequency Manipulation is a name given to our vision to develop an exclusive GUI application with the help of MATLAB, which can be used to manipulate and modify the pitch and frequency of the sound. This tool, as we hope, will allow the user to record short segments of his/her voice (perhaps 15-20 seconds) and interactively modify the pitch as well as frequency. In order to develop such an interactive system, we would first have to build a speech recording system and then proceed on to code the remaining pitch and frequency manipulation GUI. Several advantages offered by MATLAB are the reasons why we chose to develop this interface using the same. For instance, inbuilt heavy functions such as autocorrelation, correlation, and easy signal processing can be handled with the help of MATLAB by simply calling the respective function. Feasibility of this system can be compared with the already amazingly famous android application called Talking Tom Cat which offers similar kind of functionality, only differing in the GUI probably. Pitch and frequency manipulation system not only can be used in such fun applications but also in testing applications such as TOEFL examinations where student is required to record his or her voice via a headset microphone. If the pitch harmonics and frequency of the voice is infected with a lot of noise, the software would never record the sound but pop up an error message accordingly. Alternatively, if the frequency disturbance is minimal and intermittent, a system can be developed to fill in the voids in the pitch of the voice as seen in the frequency spectrum. Therefore, altogether we hope to develop an independent GUI based application using a very popular and efficacious tool called MATLAB which will not only help the user alter his recorded voice, but also let him repeatedly listen to and compare the modified version of his voice to the previous unmodified version.
