Global method for defects analysis

Principle
Shearography is a laser based interferometric technique that is sensitive to the out-of-plane deformation of a surface. Under the action of a small load, the structure is deformed and the presence of defects are revealed by local strain singularities. Although numerous variations exist, the basic components common to all shearographic systems include a laser, a digital camera, the shearing optics and an image aquisition hardware, see figure 1. The equipment has been developed into an useful tool for non-destructive testing and can be used easily on in-site environment meeting all laser safety concerns. The NDT Shearographic systems have been used in different fields of activities such as in aeronautics, aerospace, missiles, pressure vessels, marine, ... This technique allows the detection of a vast range of structural defects regardeless the structure nature of the specimen that can be a polymer, an elastomer, a composite (monolithic, sandwich or filamentar wounding) or a metal. Typical applications in the NDT field are the search of unboundings, delaminations, impacts, cracks, moisture ingression, overheating, ...

No contact with the surface Global method (able to inspect surfaces up to 50x50 cm2 in one shot) High-resolution detection method (fractions of micrometers), see figure 2 Real time (25 or 30 Hz) In-situ inspections capabilities (measurement of gradients makes the system less sensitive to environmental noise).
