Objective Analyse the given system

Introduction System inputs - Initial Sinusoid f = 5kHz Square pulse fs = 20kHz Sinusoid f = 1.19kHz Description The NLMS block has 4 inputs and 3 outputs the first input is the addition of the 2 sinusoids one of 5kHz and another of lower frequency 1.19kHz creating the signal shown in Figure 1. This signal appears to be the desired but corrupted signal.

The second important input is a Square pulse added to the desired signal and the noise. This signal is called the Reference Signal.

Figure 2: Reference Signal

First thing to mention about the systems is that it is an ever changing system. It never settles down. As a burst of signal comes in, the system changes its output trying to decide what signal to suppress.

Figure 4: Reference signal The ever changing system can be seen by the output ( Figure 3) the moment where the signal reference is equal to the noise the systems output builds up to a clear desired signal. In the middle of the signal value plot it shows the signal when the reference comes in. A pulse that is toggling 100 and -100 every sample. The NLMS box parameter mubackoff is usually less than 0.1 however when set to a value between 0.1 and 1 the signal builds up quicker to the wanted signal which is the signal. Conclusion This is an adaptive filter that can change its output according to its inputs. The filter is composed by the FIR delayer part and a noise cancellation. The reference input goes through an adaptive filter and is removed from the delayed part of the input signal. The sine wave can be separated by the noise by using a reference input that is a delayed version of the input sinusoid.
