Strudel was popular during the 18th century in the Habsburg Empire. (1278-1780) In German, the word strudel means whirlpool or eddy. Layered pastry dough, that has a, typically sweet, filling and served with cream. Traditionally, strudel is made with an elastic pastry dough that is rolled out so thin, that you can see through it. Strudel is made with flour that has a high gluten content, eggs, water, and butter.

Austrian cuisine and strudel are often associated together. Layered pastry dough, that has a, typically sweet, filling and served with cream.
