If I have to take you to this concert, I get to select the music! Although Celia did not appreciate her brothers terrible attitude, she was not going to allow anything to ruin her blissful mood. She had been counting the weeks, then days, and finally the hours to this concert since her Aunt Rosario had surprised her with tickets three months ago. She was so excited that her favorite singer was coming to play in San Juan. Unfortunately, Aunt Rosario had sprained her ankle yesterday and had had to cancel unexpectedly. Celia had gone from simple disappointment to panic; how was she going to get to the concert? She was not old enough to drive, and she knew her parents wouldnt go with her. That was when she thought of Toms. He owed her a giant favor from when she had found his misplaced research paper last week. Celia loved the singer and listened to his music every possible moment, singing along to both his Spanish and English lyrics. The chance to see him on stage, singing each song in person, was the most exciting thing that had ever English Grade 11 Listening Practice Questions 2012 3

I know how much you and your friends love going to the fall festival and riding the rides, so here are two tickets for you!" Toms thought for a moment and then began chuckling. Youre alright for a little sister, Celia, he admitted. "Thanks. And...can you keep a secret?" "Of course," replied Celia. "Tell me!" "Tonight's concert will be fun. It's not my favorite type of music, but at least I didn't have to do my chores tonight. This is a pretty good trade-off, come to think of it!" exclaimed Toms. "Oh, brother," said Celia, laughing.
