Instructions: Cast on 32 chain stitches and make a ring of them by working a slip stitch in the first chain mask. 1. round: Crochet one chain stitch and then a half double crochet (hdc) in each of the chain stitches until the end of the ring. Finish with a slip stitch in first chain stitch. 2. round: Crochet three chain stitches (the first two makes up the first double crochet of the round. * Skip one stitch and crochet as a double crochet (dc) in next stitch, crochet a chain stitch. * Repeat from * - * for the rest of the round, ending with a slip stitch in the second chain stitch at the start of the round. 3. round: Crochet three chain stitches. * Skip one stitch and do as shown in the pictures below, ie crochet a double crochet (dc) in the middle of the top part of the hdc from the previous round, and not in the next stitch in the pevious round! Doing the latter will just destroy the nice grid pattern that you want to achieve..

Pink marks where in the previous hdc you must put the crochet hook.

Here the crochet hook is stuck through the hdc, ready for a throw.

Here the throw is dragged through the hdc, ready for the rest of the double crochet (dc) stitch.

Crochet one chain stitch. * Repeat from * - * for the rest of the round, ending with a slip stitch in the second chain stitch at the start of the round.

Here you can see the effect when you crochet one dc in the top middle of the hdc from the previous round.

Repeat round 3 to the desired height. Finish with a round of single chain (sc) stitches in each stitch from previous round. Cut a part of the remaining thread and pull through. Secure all loose ends. And you have a homemade crochet lantern cover!
