Blocks the action of acetylcholine at parasympathetic sites in bronchial smooth muscle causing bronchodilation Dosage: Adult: 2puffs qid, Adult and children > 12yr 1 vial every 6-8 hr, Child 2-12yr 3drops/kg/dose q6-8 hrs Special precaution: p a t i e n t s w i t h b l a d d e r n e c k o b s t r u c t i o n , p r o s t a t i c h y p e r t r o p h y , urinary retention, geriatric patients, pregnancy, lactation children <5 yrs old Pregnancy risk category: BAdverse reaction: CNS: dizziness, headache, nervousness GI: GI irritation nausea Derm: rash CV: hypotension, palpitations Others: allergic reactions, blurred vision, sore throat, epistaxis, nasal irritation Contraindicated to: Hypersensitivity to ipatropium, atropine, belladonna alkaloids, b r o m i d e o r f l u r o c a r b o n s , p e a n u t o r s o y a l l e r g y , a v o i d u s e d u r i n g a c u t e bronchospasm Form: Aerosol inhaler, inhalation solution, nasal spray Nursing responsibilities: Monitor HR, PR, RR Caution to those with heart problems and overactive thyroid Assess allergy to atrophine and belladonna alkaloids
